After a hot competition, the participants cool off with the water events; pole walk, boom stick run and burling, on (and sometimes in) Rock Creek. The Logging Show is even older than Jam- boree, having started three or four years before the first Jamboree in1957. Registration will be from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Caulk boots are required; contestants operating power saws must also wear chaps. If the sun is shining, be sure to bring water and sunscreen as the spectator area is in full sun during part of the show. Please be careful to stay clear of competitors and pay attention to show officials. Parade Parade registration starts at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6. Judging starts at 9:30 a.m. with winners receiving their awards before the parade hits Bridge Street starting at 11:00 a.m. The staging area is on Weed Avenue, behind City Hall. The parade ends at Bridge Street and East Avenue. Entry fees are $10 for Commercial and Politi- cal entries and a suggested donation of $5 for General entries. All riders of ATV/Motorcycles who are under 18 years of age must be supervised in the pa- rade by an adult. Parade at 11:00 a.m. Don’t miss it! START RIGHT. START HERE. Jamboree t-shirts and other items will be for sale at the booth. Lawnmower Races Lawnmower races will be held across the river from Anderson Park (Sword’s Place) on Saturday, August 7. Registration starts at 3:30 p.m., followed directly by races. Helmet, gloves, pants, shirt and shoes re- quired. No mower decks or blades allowed. No bumping or ramming allowed. First Annual Diesel Power Show & Shine The World’s Fastest Semi-truck will be on hand Saturday, August 6, on the corner of Bridge St. and Washington Ave. (by the Vernonia Se- nior Center) at the First annual Diesel Power Show & Shine. Willie Hansen will fire up the Semi-truck after the parade, at about noon. The Show & Shine will run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Ring of Fire Movie The movie, Ring of Fire, which was filmed in Vernonia in 1961, will be shown on Saturday, August 6, at 7:00 p.m. The movie is free, but space will be limited. The Vernonia Public Library is on Weed Av- enue, behind Vernonia City Hall.
