The INDEPENDENT, March 3, 2011 Page 21 Obituary VELMA VIOLA ALLEN Velma Viola Allen, 90, Forest Grove, died February 12, 2011. A celebration of life service was held February 19. Private graveside services took place at Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Mrs. Allen was born August 4, 1920, in Belleville, Arkansas, to Albert and Eva Young. In 1938, she married John Virgil Allen. Eight years later they moved to Lemoore, Cali- fornia. In 1955, they moved to Oregon, settling in Buxton four years later. They grew straw- berries and blackberries for commercial use. In 2005, she moved to The Grove Assisted Living in Forest Grove. She enjoyed her flower gar- den, especially her roses. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Ken. Survivors include three sons, Darrell Allen of Golden, Colorado; Rudy Allen of Mt. Vernon, Washington, and Ray Allen of Bend; and three daughters, Melba Atwood of Cornelius, Doris Allen of Tigard, and Linda Campbell of Wilsonville. Remembrances are sug- gested to The Alzheimer’s As- sociation. Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ELLA B. HUGGETT Ella B. Huggett, 96, Sher- wood, died February 15, 2011. A celebration of life service was held February 26 at the Sher- wood United Methodist Church. Private interment was held at Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Mrs. Huggett was born April 5, 1914, in Ashby, Minnesota, to John and Gea (Tobiason) Benson. She was raised in Min- nesota. In 1936, she married Ken- neth Kaye Huggett. They made their home in California before moving to Forest Grove in 1937. During World War II they lived in Ashby, Minn., and re- turned to Forest Grove in 1945. In 1977, they moved to Banks. In 2003, she moved to Hills- boro, then to Sherwood in 2007. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed baking, garden- ing, and fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Allen Huggett of Sherwood; a daughter, Donna Winkler of Prineville; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Remembrances are sug- gested to Sherwood United Methodist Church or to the Mul- tiple Sclerosis Society of Port- land. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home of Forest Grove was in charge of arrangements. She enjoyed painting, caring for her flowers and playing bin- go. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her hus- band; a daughter, Dana Taylor of Banks; three stepchildren, Christina Burgess of Timber, Elizabeth Lunzman of Hills- boro, and Jennifer Lunzman of Portland; her mother of Tucson, Arizona; a brother, Reece C. Gullett of Fairview; eight grand- children and several cousins. Remembrances are sug- gested to the Bonnie Hayes Small Animal Shelter. Mrs. Johnston was born September 29, 1923, in Madras, to Thorval and Violet (Thielman) Larsen. When she was in the second grade the family moved to Mist. She grad- uated from Vernonia High School in 1942. In 1943, she married Em- manuel “Boone” Johnston. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed the high school activities of her children, 4-H, Randi Denise Lunzman, 50, Banks, died February 18, 2011. A celebration of life service was held February 26 at Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home with the Rev. C. Eugene Sabin officiating. Interment was at Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Mrs. Lunzman was born May 4, 1960, in Portland, to Reece W. and Rachel E. (Bartels) Gul- lett. She was raised in Scholls and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1978. She at- tended Hillsboro School of Beauty, then served as an in- structor there for two years. In 2000, she married Richard P. “Rick” Lunzman. They made their home in Banks. She worked as a substi- lowing her father’s career with ODOT. When she was a junior in high school, the family moved to Banks. She graduat- ed from Banks High School, as valedictorian, in 1971. She at- tended Treasure Valley Com- munity College, in Ontario, and received an LPN degree in 1972. In 1972, she married Tom Maller. They made their home in San Diego, California, while he was in the U.S. Navy. They moved to Banks in 1975, then to Reno, Nevada, before mov- ing to Ontario in 1982. In 1987, they returned to Banks. She worked as a nurse in California, then as a homemaker before working as an Administrative Assistant for the Banks School District starting in 1988. She enjoyed scrapbooking, and photography. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her hus- band; two sons, Dave Maller of Warren, and Don Maller of Banks; a daughter, Terri Sten- lund of Roy; and six grandchil- dren.
