A pri- vate family gathering will be held. Mrs. Fretz was born July 17, 1950, in Soap Lake, Washington, to Archibald William and June Mable (McCall) Brumley. She was raised in the Seattle, Wash. area. She worked in the electron- ics industry for Tektronix, Intel and Motorola. She lived in Gilbert, Arizona for 23 years, then in Beaverton for two years, before moving to Vernonia. She enjoyed the outdoors, photography, camping, swim- ming and spur-of-the-moment “Road Trips” and trips to casinos. An avid bowler, she was the 1st woman to bowl a perfect 300 in a sanctioned game in Chandler, Ariz. Survivors include her children; Shana King, Bert E. Martin II, and Shiree Readette, all of Ver- nonia, and Melody Lintelman of Delta Junction, Alaska; one brother, William Brumley of King- man, Ariz.; two sisters; Carol Moore of Spanaway, Wash., and Jean Sullivan of Burien, Wash.; and eight grandchildren. held October 10 at the Vernonia Community Church. Mr. Harrison was born March 24, 1937, in Astoria, to Leonard and Lila (Tulikainen) Harrison. He was raised in Olney and grad- uated from Astoria High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1961, he married Sally Big- gs. They made their home near where he logged until 1969 when they moved to Vernonia. He was a tree faller/logger for over 40 years before retiring in 1992. He enjoyed wood working and making music boxes, and was an avid sports fan who never missed one of his children’s games. He was preceded in death by three siblings. Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael of Anchorage, Alas- ka; one daughter, Lila Harrison of Vernonia; one grandson; nieces and nephews. Graveside servic- es were held at the Vernonia Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Herrin was born Septem- ber 13, 1913, in Hood River, to Ashley and Naomi (Wantland) Cash. She was raised in Hood River. In 1932, she married Paul Carroll Weller. They made their home in Bellingham, Washing- ton, from 1944 until 1949 when they moved to Vernonia. Her husband died in 1964. In 1973, she married Martin “Luther” Her- rin. They made their home in Dal- las. She returned to Vernonia in 1989, then moved to Battle Ground in 2000. She enjoyed patchwork, can- ning and collecting stuffed ani- mals. She was a member of the Vernonia Bible Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son Eugene C. “Gene” Weller. Survivors include two sons, James K. “Jim” Weller and John A. Weller; two daughters, Kath- leen N. “Kathie” Carlson and Ju- dith G. “Judi” Holsey; one broth- er, Ross Cash; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the St. Helens Community Bible Church, 350311 Millard Rd, War- ren, on Sunday, October 24, at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Ellis was born October 21, 1928, in Portland, to Matt and Tina Erickson Steinhauer. 62 years ago, she married Loren Ellis, Jr. They made their home in Vernonia until moving to their farm in Scappoose in 1980. She took care of the family farm books for over 35 years. She loved to can and cook, and warmly welcomed strangers into her home and family. Survivors include her hus- band; four sons, Stephen Ellis of Vernonia, Terry Ellis of Warren, Craig Ellis and Scott Ellis, both of Scappoose; one daughter Zenda Ellis Koch of Oregon City; hon- orary son, Robert McKutcheon of Australia; two brothers, Floyd Er- ickson of Washington and Lawrence Steinhauer of Califor- nia; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service was Maxine LTV Weller Herrin, 97, Battle Ground, Washington, died October 12, 2010. A celebration BEULAH MAIKEN Beulah Maiken, 91, Hillsboro, died October 17, 2010. A memo- rial service will be held Saturday, October 31, at 1:00 p.m. at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Congrega- tion, 3925 E. Main St., Hillsboro, with Dennis Atkins presiding. There will be a reception follow- ing. Private burial was at Vernon- ia Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Maiken was born March 2, 1919, in Vernonia, to Clarence and Gaynell (Wood) Reed. The Wood family was one of the pio- neer families in the Vernonia area. She graduated from Ver- nonia High School in 1937. In 1948, she married Francis “Harold” Maiken. They made their home in Portland before moving to Vernonia in 1966. She later moved to Hillsboro. She enjoyed gardening and sharing the Bible. She was a member of the Columbia County Extension Society. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Reed and Ivan Reed. Survivors include her son, Kent of Hillsboro; one stepson, Raymond Sprauer of Gresham; three stepdaughters, Rebecca Heintz of Mariposa, Florida, Mari Anne Stradling of Spokane, Washington, and Rachel Rich- ardson of Moses Lake, Wash; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
