At his request, there will be no funer- al service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Mr. Aldrich was born June 28, 1937, in Vernonia, to Warren and Violet (Ennis) Aldrich. He graduat- ed from Vernonia High School in 1955, then from O.I.T. in Klamath Falls, as a machinist in 1958. In 1959, he married Jeannette Schweitzer. They made their home in Roseburg. He worked for Rose- burg Forest Products as a machin- ist for 33 years until he retired in 1996. They spend their winters in Bouse, Arizona. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Pinkerton. Survivors include his wife; a son, Grant of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter, Wendy Isaacson of Ten- mile; his father of Forest Grove; three sisters, Sharon McKee of Longview, Washington, Judy Mc- Donald of Vernonia, and Betty Jo Hiler of Kelso, Wash.; four grand- children; two great-grandchildren; many extended family members and friends. Remembrances are suggested to a charity of choice or the Salva- tion Army. MARY ELIZABETH DAVIS Mary Elizabeth Davis, 95, Banks, died July 29, 2009. A cele- bration of life was held August 4, followed by interment in Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Mrs. Davis was born December 30, 1913, in Hamburg, Illinois, to Timothy and Clara Etta (Foster) Herron. She was raised in Ham- burg. In 1929, she married John Richard Davis. They made their home in Pittsfield, Ill., until moving to Banks in 1960. She moved to Hillsboro for 10 years before re- turning to Banks. In 2008, she moved to Forest Grove. In Ill., she worked at a shoe factory. In Ore- gon, she worked at a shoe factory, then at Birds Eye Cannery and Fla- vorland Cannery, until she retired at the age of 70. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John Richard Davis; a daughter, Patricia F. “Pat” Jacobs; four brothers, Charles Herron, John Herron, Carl Herron and Junior Herron; and three sis- ters, Mona Smith, Ruth Prater, and Betty Coonrod. Survivors include her son, Tim Davis of Forest Grove; a brother, LeRoy Herron of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Genevieve Buchanan of Pleasant Hill, Ill.; 18 arrangements. MARY CATHERINE DERRICK Mary Catherine Derrick, 63, Vernonia, died July 17, 2009. A Mass was held July 23 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Francis Cemetery in Roy. Mrs. Derrick was born Septem- ber 4, 1945, in Forest Grove, to Edward Henry and Madeline Agnes (Krunican) VanderZanden. She graduated from Banks High School in 1963. She worked for Rogers Organ Company in Hills- boro for a short time. In 1969, she married Patrick E. Derrick. They made their home in Hillsboro before moving to Vernon- ia in 2001. She worked for Elec- tronic Diversified for four years, then Gray & Company for 15 years before staying home as a home- maker. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband; one son, Jodi Derrick of Portland; two daughters, Rhonda Cutright of Sherwood and Carmen Derrick of Tigard; two brothers, Robert Van- derZanden of Woodburn and Eu- gene VanderZanden of Piedmont, California; four sisters, Evelyn Chalustowski of Germany, Diane VanderZanden of Hawaii, Regina Ferris of Aloha, and Eilene Van- Grunsven of Vancouver, Washing- ton; and two grandchildren. Frances Louise Lentz, 89, For- est Grove, died July 21, 2009. A celebration of life was held July 25, with Pastor Sam Hough of Vernon- ia Christian Church officiating. Pri- vate interment rites were at Sunset View Cemetery in Berkeley, Cali- fornia. Mrs. Lentz was born August 12, 1919, in San Francisco, Calif., to Frank C. and Marguerite Emily (Montalon) Castro. She was raised in Calif. She graduated from beau- ty school as a stylist. In 1944, she married John F. Lentz. They made their home in Alaska, in Homer, Fairbanks and Anchorage. They also lived in For- est Grove and Vernonia. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Ella Ja- gard. Survivors include her daughter, Francine Lentz of Vernonia; three grandchildren; four great-grand- children; and several nephews. Remembrances are suggested to Hospice and Palliative Care of Washington County or the Ameri- can Cancer Society. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove was in charge of the local arrangements. PHILLIP “PHIL” STYLES Phillip “Phil” Styles, 74, Vernon- ia, died July 24, 2009. A graveside service was held August 4, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, with Pastor Grant Williams of the Vernonia Commu- nity Church officiating. Mr. Styles was born January 26, 1935, in Sivierville, Tennessee, to Garland Ben and Sarah (Barnes) Styles. He was raised in Sivierville. He served in the U.S. Air Force, where he also obtained his GED. He moved to Lake Chelan, Wash- ington for a short time, then to Mil- waukie. He worked at the Mil- waukie Lumber Company before Phillip “Phil” Styles becoming the owner/operator of a Phillips 66 service station until 1978. He then worked for Stein Oil Company for 30 years before retir- ing. In 1989, he married Patricia J. Bahr. They made their home in West Linn before moving to Ver- nonia in 2006. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Weverstad; and two sisters, Dorothy Styles and Lola Styles. Survivors include his wife; two sons, David of Oceanside, Califor- nia and Michael of Mulino; two daughters, Carmen Styles of Ore- gon City and Becky Abney of Ver- nonia; four brothers, Walter of Siviervile, Tenn., Ralph of Malaga, Wash., Robert of Monroe, Wash., and Charles of Plain, Wash.; one sister, Jean Suttles of Wenatchee, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Research Foun- dation. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home of Vernonia was in charge of WILLIAM HARRY VEALEY William Harry Vealey, 82, Hills- boro, died July 21, 2009. Private interment has been held. Mr. Vealey was born October 15, 1926, in Sussex, New Jersey. He was raised in N.J. After grade school he drove cattle truck for his dad and took care of six brothers and one baby sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Roseburg, then to Vernonia after hearing about the Oregon American Lumber Mill. In 1950, he married the fore- man’s daughter, Ruth Hauzler. They made their home in Vernonia. When the mill shut down, he drove for Crown Zellerbach, and ran Hauzler Lumber Yard in Scap- poose for several years. He bought a Mack truck and leased out to Mayflower Moving for 25 years. In 2007, they moved to Hillsboro. Survivors include his wife; a son, William J. Vealey of Cornelius; three brothers, Donald, Harry and Edward, all of Newton, N.J.; one sister, Shirley Vealey of Osprey, Florida; one grandson, William Mark Vealey of Hillsboro; and one great-grandson, William Brogan Vealey of Hillsboro.
