Public hearing set on terms
for sale of city owned 20 acres
Fun at Camp
At the August 6 Vernonia
City Council meeting, council
directed city staff to set up a
second public hearing on the
proposed sale of 20 acres of
city held property. This hearing
is legally required in order to
publicly set the general terms
and conditions of the sale.
Once this hearing has been
held, council will be able to
consider any offers on the
property during closed execu-
tive sessions.

Bear Creek Run benefits V. Cares Annual Old Timers
Runners and walkers can
still participate in the Vernonia
Bear Creek 10K/5K Run/Walk
on Saturday, August 18, by reg-
istering in Anderson Park, start-
ing at 7:45 a.m. The 10K starts
at 8:15 a.m., 5K at 8:30 a.m.
At 9:30 a.m. awards will be
given out for first place winners
in both the run and the walk,
plus a free prize drawing will be
held for all participants. Free

The annual picnic of the
Vernonia Society and “Old
Grads” will be held August 19
at Anderson Park in Vernonia.
Registration starts at 10:00
a.m.
Hot dogs and soft drinks will
be on sale by Vernonia Pride,
or bring a picnic lunch. Coffee
and cups will be provided.

have organized a Benefit Din-
ner to help with the continuing
expenses of hospitalization
and recovery.
The dinner will be held at
the Vernonia Senior Center on
Saturday, August 18th, from
4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Volun-
teers will be serving hamburg-
ers, chips, salad, dessert &
beverage for $5. Everything
needed for the dinner – food,
supplies, labor, etc. – has been
donated, so 100-percent of the
proceeds will go to the Rhian-
non Meyer Fund at Wauna
Federal Credit Union.

Vernonia Night Out
plans family fun, food
The third annual Vernonia
Night Out will be Tuesday, Au-
gust 21, 5-7:00 p.m., at Ander-
son Park.
Once again, Vernonia Night
Out will feature a free bar-
beque, prizes, free admission,
demonstrations, freebies, mu-
sic, police, fire and ambulance
vehicles.
Join your neighbors and
take a stand against crime and
violence at Vernonia Night Out,
presented by the Vernonia Po-
lice Department.
This 160 foot, 175 year-old Douglas fir will replace a deteriorating spar tree in the display of logging equipment at Camp 18. The tree was felled by Camp 18
owner Gordon Smith. Gustafson Logging, Nygaard Logging, both of Astoria, and Pellham Cutting, Inc., St. Helens, donated their services for this project.
