Page 14 The INDEPENDENT, July 5, 2007 Obituary ELAINE RUTH CHRISTENSEN Elaine Ruth Christensen, 79, Fish- hawk Lake, died June 20, 2007. Private family services have been held. Mrs. Christensen was born July 9, 1927, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Einer and Dora (Hansen) Fischer. She was raised in Racine. She attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with a nursing degree in 1949. In 1955, she married Quenton Ed- ward Christensen. They made their home in Illinois until 1974, when they moved to California. In 1995, she moved to Fishhawk Lake. She worked in nursing. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Charles Fisch- er. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Christensen of Placerville, Calif., and John Christensen of Chicago, Ill.; three daughters, Lisa Schneider of Oxnard, Calif., Kathryn Christensen of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Mary Christensen of Vernonia; a sister, Marilyn Perkins of Santa Barbara, Calif; and one grand- son. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Vernonia was in charge of arrange- ments. PATRICIA FLORENE JACOBS ESTELLE L. COSTAIN Estelle L. Costain, 99, Forest Grove, died July 4, 2007. Greg is just now obtaining his degree in Mortuary Science at Mt. Hood Community College and Chris continues to serve his Funeral Practitioner Apprenticeship. It’s their goal to continue the fine tradition of service their father, Jeff and their late grandfather, Derrel Rose have given the community the past twenty-five years. A celebration of life was held June 25 at Union Point Ceme- tery with Pastor Ryan Whippel, of the Grace Hills Fellowship, officiating, fol- lowed by interment at the cemetery. Mrs. Jacobs was born October 12, 1933, in Pleasant Hill, Illinois, to John Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Herron) Davis. She was raised in Ill. In 1951, she married Kenneth Wayne Jacobs. They made their home in Illinois until moving to Banks in 1958. She worked as an assembly line engi- neer for Hoody’s in Beaverton until re- tiring due to an injury. She was preceded in death by her husband; her father, and a brother, John Davis. Survivors include a son, Gary Ja- cobs of Beaverton; four daughters, Pamela Lunzman of Hillsboro, Linda Thibault of Aloha, Kenna Morris and Teresa Brown, both of Banks; her mother of Hillsboro; a brother, Virgil Davis of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America, Oregon Chapter, or to the American Cancer Society. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove was in charge of arrangements. LEROY ELDON SANDAGE Leroy Eldon Sandage, 72, Banks, died June 15, 2007. Mr. Sandage was born June 7, 1935, in Amarillo, Texas, to Shirley Sr. and Ruth Lorraine Goad Sandage. He was raised in New Mexico and Sacra- mento, California. He served in the U.S. Marines. In 1954, he married Carrol Buck- man. They made their home in Sacra- mento until moving to Hillsboro in 1966. They moved to Banks in 1970. He was a mason until he retired in 1995. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Ricky Don of Banks, Michael Wayne of Vernonia, Robert Leroy of Santa Maria, Calif., and Mark of Las Vegas; five daughters, Terry Lyn Kellar and Debra Lorrie Kemper, both of Bux- ton, Donna Marie Hansel of Lincoln City, Rhonda Sandage of Scappoose, and Christy Lee Hudson of Haxton, Colorado; one brother, Shirley Jr. of Hillsboro; one sister, Carolyn VanVleck of Cornelius; 28 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. AMBER LYNNE VARNAM-DAHL Amber Lynne Varnam-Dahl, 39, Vernonia, died June 30, 2007. A cele- bration of life will be held Sunday, July 8, at 6:00 p.m. at Camp Wilkerson, on Apiary Road, with Pastor Paul Pastor officiating. Private graveside services will be held at the North Cemetery of Clear Creek in Vernonia. Mrs. Dahl was born January 13, 1968, in Los Angeles, California, to Wilbur and Katherine (Skaggs) Ran- dall. She was raised in Santa Monica, Calif. and Springfield, Illinois. She moved to Tualatin in 1993. In 1994, she married Douglas J. Dahl. They made their home in Beaver- ton until moving to Vernonia in 1999. She was a caregiver, recently working with Visiting Angels. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Jessica L. Varnum and Sarah J. Dahl, both of Vernonia; her parents of Vernonia; a brother, Matthew Randall of Louisville, Kentucky; her grandmother, Vivian Skaggs of Beaver- ton; and close friends, Joe Gray and Donna King and her family, both of Ver- nonia.
