Page 20 The INDEPENDENT, March 1, 2007 Obituary NELLIE MARIE ANDERSON Nellie Marie Anderson, 74, Beaver- ton, died February 21, 2007. A celebra- tion of life was held February 28 at the First Baptist Church in Vernonia with Pastor John Cahill officiating. Private interment was at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Anderson was born October 12, 1932, in Oklahoma, to Thomas Levi and Nellie Cleveland (Simpson) Wolf. As a young girl she moved with her family to Vernonia, where she was raised. She was homemaker. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Homer Wolf, Cecil Wolf, Jack Wolf, Thomas Wolf, and Francis Wolf; and two sisters, Mary Lou Wolf and Ruth Sullivan. Survivors include her son, Randy N. of Vernonia; a sister, Catherine Dailey of Quartzite, Arizona; nieces and nephews. HOWARD E. “SKIP” BUZZINI JR. Howard Eugene “Skip” Buzzini, Jr., 55, Vernonia, died February 15, 2007. A celebration of life will be announced and held at a later date. Mr. Buzzini was born June 23, 1951, in Portland, to Howard Eugene Buzzini, Sr. and Emma Ruth (Henderix- son) Buzzini. He was raised in Port- land, graduating from Grant High School in 1969. Recently, he had been resident caretaker and handyman for Mrs. Betty Wall. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Jack; and a sister, Eddie Neal-Bunch. Survivors include his son, Jonathan of Portland; his daughter, Tasha Faye Homler of Grove, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; one cousin and one nephew. Remembrances are suggested to the City of Vernonia, 1001 Bridge St., Vernonia OR 97064, for the purpose of building a skate park. Graveside services will be held Satur- day, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery, 1161 W. Pacific Ave. in Forest Grove. A celebration of life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, 2032 College Way in Forest Grove, with the Reverend Richard Kroll officiating. Mrs. Coleman was born June 3, 1911, in Garden City, Kansas, to Louis and Alice (Camp) Selig. When she was two, her family moved to Baker, then to Vernonia in 1923, where she complet- ed her education. In 1930, she married James A. “Art” Davis. They made their home in Ver- nonia. Mr. Davis died in 1958. In 1973, she married Donald E. Coleman. They made their home in Forest Grove. She worked at Tektronix in Beaverton for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband and a grandson. Survivors include a son, James “Jim” Davis; a daughter, Alice Hoskins of Forest Grove; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorial services were held February 17 at Tem- ple Baptist Church in Portland. Private interment was in Willamette National Cemetery. Mrs. Due was born June 11, 1943, in Portland. She was raised in Portland. In 1961, she married Arthur Due. They made their home in Portland. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; a son, James of Vernonia; two daugh- ters, Joanne Shaw and Crystal Fur- long, both of Portland; 10 grandchil- dren; and three great-grandchildren. WALTER S. “ROXY” NELSON Walter Stanley “Roxy” Nelson, 87, Birkenfeld, died February 7, 2007. A memorial gathering was held February 18 at the Birkenfeld Grange. Mr. Nelson was born September 2, 1919, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Neil and Dagmar (Orm) Nelson. He was raised in Portland. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Af- ter leaving the Navy in 1954, he was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until he retired in 1973. He is survived by his dear friend, Marge “Honey” Ricketts; a sister, Katie Causgrove of Portland; nieces and nephews. JONILYN KAY PINYERD Jonilyn Kay Pinyerd, 65, Banks, died February 18, 2007. Funeral servic- es were held February 24 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in Cornelius, with the Reverend Michael Warmbier officiating. Interment was in Mt. View Memorial Gardens in Forest Grove. Mrs. Pinyerd was born November 24, 1941, in Pendleton, to John Henry and Dorothy Jane (Mustard) Nye. She was raised in Hermiston, moving to The Dalles as a freshman in high school and to Depoe Bay her sophomore year. In 1971, she married Richard Piny- erd. MARGERY HELEN REILLY Margery Helen Reilly, 80, Forest Grove, died February 18, 2007. A gath- ering was held February 25 in Forest Grove. Private interment was at Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Mrs. Reilly was born September 5, 1926, in Banks, to Ralph A. and Grace G. (Parker) Wilcox. She graduated from Banks High School in 1944, and later attended Portland State University for one year. In 1946, she married Robert L. Reil- ly. They made their home in Hillsboro and later divorced. Later, she moved to Forest Grove to live with her daughter. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Reilly. Survivors include a son, James Reilly of Hillsboro; a daughter, Penny Webb of Forest Grove; five grandchil- dren; and four great-grandchildren. HENRY NATHAN “HANK” TAYLOR Henry Nathan “Hank” Taylor, 85, Birkenfeld, was found dead in his car off Hwy. 202 on February 7, 2007. A memorial service was held February 24, at Fishhawk Cemetery. Mr. Taylor was born January 28, 1922, in the Clatsop Plains area. He was educated in Birkenfeld and served in the U.S. Navy. In 1947, he married Arneda Grimes. He was a retired fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include a sister, Darlene Hansen of Svensen; three nephews and one niece. BARBARA ANN SMITH Barbara Ann Smith, 50, formerly of Vernonia, died February 20, 2007. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 11, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Jetty Apartments, 426 SE Jetty Ave., Lincoln City. Mrs. Smith was born October 1956, in Hillsboro, to Richard and Joyce Johnson. She was raised in Vernonia, attended Mist Grade School and Ver- nonia High School. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Jack Church. Survivors include three daughters, Tina Miller of Cinebar, Washington, Tabitha Gillman of Lincoln City, and Teresa Church of St. Helens; her par- ents of Lincoln City; two brothers, Rick and Brian Johnson; one sister, Beverly; and six grandchildren. STANLEY GENE SMITH Stanley Gene “Stan” Smith, 48, Ver- nonia, died February 12, 2007. A cele- bration of life was held February 17 at the Nehalem Valley Bible Church with Pastor Gary Taylor officiating. Private interment has been held. Mr. Smith was born May 20, 1958, in Portland, to Delbert S. and Eunice Mae (Stampflee) Smith. He was raised in Forest Grove and attended college for two years. In 1987, he married Mary Fowler. They made their home in Vernonia. He worked for Herzog-Meier Volvo in Beaverton for several years and, for the past three years, worked as detail man- ager for St. Helens Auto Center. He was preceded in death by his CAROL MARIE VANDEHEY Carol Marie Vandehey, 69, Forest Grove, died February 14, 2007. A me- morial mass was held February 19 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hills- boro. Mrs. Vandehey was born January 23, 1938, in Petaluma, California, to Wallace and Eleanor Carter Hockema. She was raised in Petaluma. She moved to Forest Grove in 1957. In 1957, she married Alvin Joseph Meeuwsen. They made their home in Banks. She moved to Forest Grove in 2000. She worked in assembly at Tek- tronix for 22 years, retiring in 1991. Survivors include four children and their spouses, Debra and Mike Duyck of Cornelius, Walter and Sharon Meeuwsen of Banks, Sherry and Bill Robeck of Forest Grove, and Greg and Roxanne Meeuwsen of Gaston; four siblings and their spouses, Darlene Miesner of Forest Grove, Joanne Mohr of Hillsboro, Rich and Marlene Hocke- ma of Springfield, and David and Theresa McKee of Lincoln City; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchil- dren. Bayliss Armitage Wiley, 97, Perth, Ontario, Canada, died February 11, 2007. Funeral services were held in Perth, and private interment was near Barney’s River, Nova Scotia. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ernest Armitage and James Wiley; two brothers, John and George Bayliss; and two sisters, Christena Goddard and Ada Caroline Bayliss. Survivors include a son; Kenneth Armitage of Banks; a daughter, Karen Sentesy of Perth; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
