Filing is now open for posi- tions on the boards of directors of school and fire districts. The election will be on May 15, 2007. All terms are for a period of four years unless otherwise specified. Vernonia School District Cattle, in the field behind Hawkins Park, did not seem to mind the snow that fell on Tues- day morning, February 28. Area residents also saw snow fall on February 27. Vernonia Council sets schedules, Meetings set for hears possible speed limit change public review of The Vernonia City Council committee member requested new linear trail meeting of February 20 was short, just under an hour long, and mostly concerned with cal- endars: • The supplemental budget calendar was amended to in- clude a March 19 public hear- ing, which was made neces- sary by additional changes. • The council’s goal setting calendar was adopted, includ- ing workshops to be held on March 19 and April 16. • The budget calendar was sent back for re-work after a Change of meeting date for WOEC West Oregon Electric Coop- erative’s March board meeting has been changed from March 20 to March 27. a change and that other com- mittee members be contacted with a proposed calendar. There was no report from City Administrator Dick Kline, who was unable to attend the meeting. Chief of Police Mat Work- man reported on the possibility of changing the speed limit from 25 to 20 mph in the down- town corridor. Council gave consensus to schedule a town hall-style workshop in April for citizen input on the idea. The next Vernonia City Council meeting will be March 5, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. March 1, 2007 A Crown-Zellerbach Trail (C- Z Trail) meeting will be held Tuesday, March 13, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Scout Cab- in in Hawkins Park, Vernonia. The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for the general public to see and discuss the draft plan for the trail. When the trail is complet- ed, it will go from the Columbia slough in Scappoose, to Ver- nonia Lake. A Monday, March 12, meet- ing will also be held in Scap- poose, same time and same purpose, at the City of Scap- poose Council Chambers. How to File Anyone interested in serving in one of these volunteer posi- tions must file nomination pa- pers with their County Elec- tions office no later than March 15, 2007. Potential candidates may file in two different ways. Either way, they must complete a Fil- ing of Candidacy for Special District Nomination form. They may then choose to pay a $10.00 fee or, in lieu of a fee, gather at least 25 signatures of registered voters within the boundaries of their School or Fire District, on a Petition for Special District Nomination sig- nature form .
