ROBERT DALE CORDREY Clifford C. “Cliff” Bergerson, Jr., 83, Federal Way, Washington, died No- vember 19, 2006. At his request, there were no services. Mr. Bergerson was born June 30, 1923, on a farm near Vernonia, to Clif- ford and Mathilde Bergerson. He at- tended Kist Grade School and graduat- ed from Vernonia High School. He was attending Pacific University when World War II broke out. He served in the U.S. Airforce. In 1943, he married Pat Erickson. He was a pilot for United Airlines for 38 years before retiring in 1983. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Connie King, Cheryl Es- singer, Jacque Tate, all of Wash.; one son, Robert of Louisiana; a sister, Irene B. Christensen of Vernonia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. DOUGLAS MURRAY BOYLAN Douglas Murray Boylan, 52, former- ly of Banks, died December 29, 2006. Services have been held. Mr. Boylan was born January 21, 1954, in Troy, New York. He was an over-the-road truck driver until retiring in 2003. He was living in Portland. A celebra- tion of life was held January 13 at Ver- nonia Christian Church. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Cordrey was born December 9, 1925, in Massillion, Ohio, to Avondale and Helen (Morris) Cordrey. He moved with his family to Oregon as a young boy and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1942. In 1950, he married Virginia Thomas. They later divorced. He mar- ried Dianne Gallinger in 1994. They made their home in Vernonia. He worked in the Shipyards as a young man, then at Lillegard Motors. He even- tually owned and operated Bob’s Auto Wrecking in Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry; a sister, Vivian Cordrey; and a grandchild. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike of Hillsboro; two daughters, Bob- bie Oppenlander, and Joyce Heide- man, both of Hillsboro; four step-chil- dren, Vicki Compton, Donna Hepler, Sue Robertson, and Donald Willard, all of the Vernonia area; two brothers, Tom and John, both of Hillsboro; two sisters, Helen Losli of Hillsboro, and Beverly Doherty of Warren; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to the Vernonia Christian Church. GAIL COLLEEN GORDON Gail Colleen Gordon, 46, Cornelius, died January 5, 2007. Memorial servic- es were held January 13, at the Good Shepherd Home in Cornelius. Ms. Gordon was born January 5, 1961, in Syracuse, New York, to Dou- glas and Barthene Chada Gordon. The family lived in Crystal Lake, Illinois, be- fore moving to Banks in 1977. She graduated from Forest Grove High School and had lived at the Good Shepherd Home for the past 15 years. Survivors include her parents of Banks; a brother, Jim of San Jose; a sister, Joy Fields of Clackamas; nieces and nephews. ARLENE F. “IKEY” HERINCKX Arlene Frances “Ikey” Herinckx, 83, Verboort, died January 6, 2007. A fu- neral mass was held January 11 at Vis- itation Catholic Church, followed by in- terment in Visitation Cemetery. Mrs. Herinckx was born March 2, 1923, in Verboort, to Albert and Theodora Van Dyke Jansen. She was raised in Verboort and attended Visita- tion School. In 1947, she married Joseph F. Her- inckx. They made their home in Ver- boort. She was a homemaker and helped on the family dairy farm. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Philip; three brothers, Maurice Jansen, Gerve Jansen, and Vernon Jansen; and a sister, Mary Hafner. Survivors include five sons, Ray- mond of Portland, Stanley of Cornelius, Stephen of Verboort, Edward of Van- couver, Washington, and Wilfred of North Plains; three daughters, Doreen Devlaeminck of Vernonia, Theresa Crubaugh of Yamhill, and Adella Her- inckx of Forest Grove; two brothers, Wilbur “Pete” Jansen of Verboort, and Larry Jansen of Forest Grove; a sister, Martha Eberly of Veneta; eight grand- children; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Remembrances are suggested to the Visitation Cemetery Fund. MICHAEL JAMES MEISER Michael James Meiser, 56, Seaside, died January 8, 2007. FRANK M. REED Frank M. Reed, 91, Prineville, died January 10, 2007. A service was held January 17, at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens, followed by vault inter- ment at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Scappoose. Mr. Reed was born December 1, 1915, in St. Helens, to Robert and Kel- lie (Ridneski) Ree. He was educated in Trenholm, Wilark, and at Benson High School in Portland. He was a long-time farmer in Vernonia and early on logged with horses. He moved to Prineville in 1991 and continued to farm there. Survivors include his sister, Frances Floeter of Scappoose; three nieces, Karen Mask of Bellevue, Washington, Cathy Howard of Vernonia, and Carol Curl of Hillsboro; seven great-nieces and nephews. Remembrances are suggested to the American Cancer Society. GWENDOLYN C. SHERRELL-MEEKER Gwendolyn C. Sherrell-Meeker, 95, Forest Grove, died January 6, 2007. Private services will be held. Mrs. Sherrell-Meeker was born No- vember 12, 1911, in Bay Center, Wash- ington, to the Rev. Claud H. and Adela Fox Cowdy. She was raised in Wash. and earned a degree in music and ac- counting from Gonzaga University. In 1935, she married Lawrence Sherrell. In 1945, she marred Homer Paul Givens. At age 80, she married William Con Meeker. She worked as an area clerk for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 25 years, retiring in 1976. She then worked as a Forest Grove police dispatcher for three years and as a grant writer for the Forest Grove Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a sister, Eileen. Survivors include three daughters, Paula Nutt of Hillsboro, Gai Stewart of Banks, and Claudia Eagle of St. He- lens; six grandchildren; six great-grand- children; three great-great grandchil- dren; and two nephews. FRANK G. SOHLER Frank G. Sohler, 92, Forest Grove, died December 28, 2006. A funeral mass was held January 4, in St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro, with the Rev. William Holtzinger and the Rev. Jimmy Espinoza as celebrants. Burial rites and interment followed at St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Sohler was born January 31, 1914, in Banks, to Wendelin Jacob and Anna Mary (Pranger) Sohler. When he was five, the family moved to Hillsboro, where he was raised. He was educated through the eighth grade at St. Matthew Catholic School. In 1941, he married Doris Anna Am- ato. They made their home in Hillsboro, Nehalem, Wheeler and Tillamook, be- fore returning to Hillsboro. In 1998, they moved to Forest Grove. He worked in the woods, built houses with his father and brother, drove log truck, was a self- taught machinist and a master me- chanic. In 1960, he designed and built the first blackcap picker for Malensky farms in Washington County. He worked at Alder Creek Lumber Co. for six years, and Forest Grove Iron Works for 23 years. After retiring in 1980, he did part-time machine work for Banks Lumber. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Father Louis Sohler and Arthur Sohler; and a sister, Dorothy Tupper. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Lewis F. of Oregon City, Dennis C. of Cornelius, and Donald W. of Gas- ton; a daughter, Kathleen D. Mackey of Lacey, Washington; three sisters, Julie Moran of Nehalem, Evelyn Fitzpatrick of Beaverton, and Catherine Newman of Hillsboro; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins. DONALD PETER SPIERING Donald Peter “Don” Spiering, 89, Newberg, died January 7, 2007. A fu- neral mass was held January 10 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Roy. Inter- ment was in St. Francis Catholic Ceme- tery. Mr. Spiering was born December 10, 1917, in Greenville, to George and Mary Vanderzanden Spiering. He was raised on the family farm in Roy and graduated from Banks High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Pacif- ic University and a master’s degree from the University of Oregon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1949, he married Jean Ackerson. They made their home in Tillamook and Beaverton. He later moved to Tualatin, and to Newberg in 2004. He was princi- pal at Tillamook High School from 1957 to 1962 and taught at Washington High School in Portland before retiring in 1978. He was preceded in death by his wife and three siblings. Survivors include a daughter, Colleen Spiering of Newberg; two brothers, David of Forest Grove and Norman of Beaverton; one sister, Eve- lyn LaBella of Portland; and one grand- son. Remembrances are suggested to Pacific University Alumni Association, 2043 College Way, Forest Grove OR 97116. GLADYS LUCILLE WINKLER Gladys Lucille Winkler, 86, Aloha, died December 27, 2006. A funeral mass was held January 2, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, followed by interment in St. Matthew Cemetery. Mrs. Winkler was born July 14, 1920, in Maxwell, Nebraska, to Frank and Mabel Cantrell Robinson. She was raised in Kearney, Neb. In 1940, she married Chester C. Winkler. They moved to Oregon in 1942. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother, Ivan Robinson. Survivors include four sons, Donald L. and Larry A., both of Aloha, Kenneth J. of Vernonia, and Vaughn P. of New- berg; two sisters, Marjorie Whitmore of Springfield and Gloria Mae Prince of Forest Grove; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
