The INDEPENDENT, December 7, 2006 Community Scouts will collect food on Dec. 9 Saturday, December 9, starting at 10:00 a.m., the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be canvassing Ver- nonia to collect your donations of non-perishable food to bene- fit Vernonia Cares food pantry. What do you need to do? Place canned food donations in a bag on your doorstep and the scouts will collect it and deliver it to Vernonia Cares to be sort- ed into designated categories. The people of Vernonia have always supported this event with great enthusiasm and the scouts hope to exceed the 1055 pounds of food donated last year. The need for dona- tions is always there and you can help us make a difference for those families who really appreciate and need this extra little help. Museum will hold a Holiday Gala The Vernonia Pioneer Muse- um will hold a special holiday gala on Saturday, December 9, from 12-4:00 p.m. The weekly Holiday Bucks drawing will be held at noon that day at the Museum. After the drawing, there will be hot cider and cookies, with Christmas music and decor. Remember, you get a Holi- day Bucks stamp just for visit- ing the museum, plus a stamp for every $5 in museum pur- chases. We have a number of copies of old photographs for sale, and soon we will be able to take orders for the 4-foot panorama photo of the Ore- gon-American mill. It’s currently being professionally restored and digitized using some of the Oregon Heritage and Oregon Cultural Trust grant funds we were awarded this summer. The museum is looking for additional volunteers to help hold the museum open, help with research, inventory, spe- cial events, and other activities. If you can spare a few hours per month, come sign up. Reg- ular museum hours are from 1- 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sun- days during the winter months, but the museum will be closed Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
