Bandito Grooming started offering grooming serv- ices at Creatures on July 1. Teia Hassey, owner/operator of Bandito Grooming, has been grooming dogs “all her life.” She has two aunts who show and groom dogs and she start- ed helping out at an early age. She has also groomed horses for dressage, English and west- ern riding and was a profes- sional horse trainer until about six years ago. Hassey, who will partner with the owner of Creatures, says her goal is to increase business there and to keep taking class- es to keep her skills up-to-date to give the best possible serv- ice to her grooming clients. “I’m really proud to be able to help the animals and improve their health through grooming serv- ices such as by clipping their nails,” said Hassey. Hassey lives just this side of Mist with her husband, four dogs, four cats, two horses (and another on the way), on a seven acre farm with a large garden, fruit trees and a hay- field to keep her busy when she Teia Hassey is not grooming dogs. “Pets are family and I always treat them that way,” Hassey says and this is reflected in her business motto, “Where pets are family.” In fact, her busi- ness is named after one of her family’s dogs. CCB suspends construction contractor On July 2, the Construction Contractors Board (CCB) is- sued an emergency suspen- sion to Rob’s Custom Interiors, Inc. of Portland directing the business to immediately cease construction contractor activi- ties. Rob’s Custom Interiors, Inc, is operating in the Man- zanita and Rockaway Beach area. The corporate officers of Rob’s Custom Interiors, Inc. are Robert D. Moore of Port- land and Bradley L. Thomas of West Linn. Moore and Thomas each have previous CCB licenses with outstanding construction debt. Moore’s dispute resolu- tion debt is over $5000 and Thomas owes more than $13,000 in civil penalties. The CCB may suspend a li- cense without hearing if there are sufficient findings that there is a serious danger to the pub- lic welfare, including conduct as a construction contractor that is dishonest or fraudulent. The CCB is a state agency licensing more than 43,000 contractors. Anyone who is paid to repair, improve or build a home must be licensed by the CCB. May unemployment sits at an adjusted 5.9 percent Columbia County’s season- ally-adjusted unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 5.9 percent in May. The rate was about the same as the statewide rate of 5.6 percent but higher than the national rate of 4.6 percent. Total em- ployment in the county rose by 107 from April and the number of unemployed people de- creased by 30. Total employ- ment was 21,907 in May and 1,278 people were unem- ployed. May 2005’s seasonally-ad- justed unemployment rate was 7.5 percent. Total employment this May was 559 greater than one year before and 337 fewer people were unemployed.
