If you’ve dreamed of writing
creatively, the non-credit Be-
ginning Writer’s Workshop
course is a great place to start.
Instructor Ann Linquist will in-
troduce students to the writing
life and cover how to improve
writing skills and new ways to
stretch your creative muscles.
Working with a word pro-
cessing program is essential in
today’s high tech environment.
If you need to start from the be-
ginning or just need to update
your skills, Portland Communi-
ty College will offer an online
non-credit Word 2003 class this
spring.
Word 2003: Level I shows
students how to create and
modify documents in Word
2003, the most popular word-
processing program available.
Join instructor Craig Power to
learn the basics and quickly be-
come proficient.
Held entirely online via the
Internet, these six-week class-
es offer the flexibility to open
lessons whenever your sched-
ule allows and feature discus-
sion boards with the instructor
and other students. These
classes will be offered May 17
through June 23. Cost is $85.

Although the weather wasn’t cooperating on April 29, being
wet and cool, the Bike Rodeo drew around 100 children and
adults and was deemed a success by the police department.
Girls: Wear the Jamboree crown
The Vernonia Jamboree
Committee wants to bring back
the tradition of a Jamboree
Princess Court to celebrate the
50th anniversary. Eligible par-
ticipants are girls living in the
Vernonia area who will be in
high school (grades 9-12) dur-
ing the 2006-07 school year,
and who would proudly repre-
sent Vernonia during Jamboree
weekend and at a few other
summer community events.
Applications are available at
Vernonia High School and Mid-
dle School offices and at Ver-
nonia City Hall. Applications
must be turned in at City Hall
by May 12, at 5:00 p.m.
