The INDEPENDENT, April 20, 2006 Page 7 Community Trivia and auction benefit rodeo A Cinco de Mayo Rodeo Auction and Trivia Night will be held Friday, May 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Scout Cabin in Ver- nonia. Teams will compete against each other in trivia knowledge and there will be a silent auc- tion, plus door prizes. The proceeds will go to- wards bringing a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo or a Bull Riding event to Vernonia during this year’s 50th Vernonia Friendship Jam- boree. Walk-ins are welcome to participate for $5.00 per per- son. If you don’t have a team, you’ll be matched up with one when you arrive. Alternative stage seeks local talent The Alternative Stage, near- ing its two-decade birthday, is calling local musicians, enter- tainers, storytellers, actors and actresses, comedians, histori- ans and performers of all types to assist in providing the ulti- mate in family friendly enter- tainment, during this year’s 50th anniversary of the Vernon- ia Friendship Jamboree. Especially encouraged to apply are students who would like a venue to express them- selves. This year’s stage is also looking for volunteers to Want to teach? Here’s a chance The Vernonia Community Learning Center (VCLC) is seeking area citizens who may be interested in sharing their skills with others in the commu- nity in the form of a class or workshop. Everyone, regard- less of educational status, is in- vited to submit in writing a statement outlining your spe- cial talents or expertise and what your class or workshop would look like. In addition to offering ac- credited college courses through Portland Community College, the VCLC wants to present programs that would increase the visibility of com- munity members with skills and backgrounds in diverse areas, and those who wish to learn from them. Preferably, statements will be from a half to one page long, including name, phone number and/or email address. The statements may be dropped of at City Hall to the attention of Jesse, or may be emailed to jajones@pdx.edu. A tentative deadline for these statements is May 1, but they likely will be accepted after that date.
