There will be six stages and all riders receive a prize. This is the first of the two-part Les Schwab Award series. Early entry fees are avail able for sign-ups by July 6. Call Leslie at 503-429-0532 to ride. For the public, this is an op portunity to see horseback rid ers in period dress shooting (not live ammunition) at targets while in motion. The precision action was fast and loud ac cording to spectators from last year’s regionals held here in Vernonia. Laws has been called the wizard of radical blues styling guitar. • Rubberneck, one of the hardest working funk bands around, on July 14. Led by the Chilean-born and Texas-raised Ojeda brothers, Rubberneck plays soulful Latin-Funk (a mu sical hybrid they call “Lunk”). • D.K. Stewart and his New Orleans boogie-woogie style keyboards, appears with his quartet on July 21. Early arrivals may enjoy the A rtisan s’ Open Air Market, which opens at 11:00 a.m., fea turing arts and crafts, imports, and produce. A second instructor, Orissa Burghard, has joined Penny Costley on the Vernonia Jazz ercise team. Burghard will kick off her classes on Monday, July 11 at 7:15 a.m. at the First Bap tist Church. The two Vernonia instructors have also announced their summer schedule. Jazzercise classes will be held at 7:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Mon days, W ednesdays and Fridays and at 7:15 p.m. M ondays through Thursdays. Classes are held at the First Baptist Church, 359 A Street. Child- care is available at the morning classes. The 60-m inute Jazzercise class includes a warm -up, high-energy aerobic routines, muscle toning and cool-down stretch segment. Jazzercise instructors must pass an intensive certification program, which includes a writ ten exam in physiology and a teaching audition.
