Pioneer Museum to open Fridays,
local author will be there June 26
The Vernonia Pioneer Muse
um is now open Fridays for the
summer months, in addition to
the regularly scheduled Satur
days and Sundays. Special
arrangements can be made for
group gatherings, as well.
The Museum is located at
511 E. Bridge Street, in the ad
ministration building of the for
mer Oregon-American Lumber
Company, which is on the Na
tional Register of Historic
Places. Now, as home for Ver
nonia’s unique little museum,
the shapely building is again
experiencing a very exciting
time.
Old displays are being re
arranged and new ones set up.
Oral and written histories from
pioneer families are being
gathered and will be available
to the public in the near future.
Programs such as “Museum
Talks,” which will feature de
scendents of pioneers sharing
their history, are being sched
uled. Ideas are ongoing and
dedicated volunteers are there
to help.
This Saturday, June 18, the
museum board will meet at
1:00 p.m. The meeting is open
to the public. After a short busi
ness meeting, Bob Stevens
from Rainier Museum will talk
about the formation of an or
ganization including all muse
ums and historical societies in
Columbia County and how
such an organization would be
of benefit.
Local author Stella Belling
ham Satern will be featured in
Museum Talks on Sunday,
June 26, at 2:00 p.m. Satern
and friends will share what is
was like to be a pioneer woman
in 1875. This will be held out
side, weather permitting. Bring
a blanket or chair.
The Museum is seeking do
nations to a “Wish List” from
anyone who would like to
share: Manikins/dress forms,
TV/DVD combo or separate,
tape recorder, computer paper,
jewelry display case that ro
tates.

seen seven geese nesting at
the lake and two very healthy
garter snakes basking in the
grass along the path. Plus, the
bull frog still calling for a mate.
Now that the city owns Clara
Cleveland County Road do
they get the job of painting the

For you folks having to trav

Have you dislocated your
spines, yet? That “BUMP" is a
car buster even at 5 mph. I see
last Wednesday they made a
poor attempt to fix it - failed
and the warning cones are only
about 6’ from it. Shame,
shame.
A reminder: Look for the
“Fireworks” donation cans - the
4th of July is only 25 days away
and where will all the people sit
to watch the fireworks? The
lawn is gone.
