The INDEPENDENT, April 21, 2005 Letters, cont. From page 3 servatives might have imag- ined, a new study says. By their own description, 72 percent of those teaching at American universities and colleges are liberal and 15 percent are con- servative, says the study being published this week.” Additionally, the fundamen- tal issue is complicated by the fact that a major element of our society wants a nation styled in the image of a set of interna- tionally weak and pitiful West- ern European nations that have sold their souls to the notion that a “no judgments on behav- ior” society is the embodiment of freedom. Sadly, for whatever reason, these nations have for- feited their spiritual values for the easier life of progressive/ secular handouts, a rampant drug culture, break-down of family and a variety of less than moralistic behavior patterns. In Trout stocked for River Fest From page 22 Under Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, anglers under the age of 13 can fish for free. A ju- venile license is required for anglers 14-17 years of age. All fishing regulations continue to apply. This event is operated in conjunction with the City of Vernonia’s annual River Fest. Page 23 Vernonia Police Department most cases, the underlying en- gine driving this life style is the failure of the people to recog- nize and use the fundamental principles that would dampen the potential for disaster. In America, it is our duty to take a look at this Western European situation and make certain we do not fall into the same trap. The biggest thereat to our society – and the major issue facing America today – is the fact that the extreme, liberal left working in concert with the American Civil Liberties Union, has successfully accessed lo- cal and regional courts of law in an effort to tear down our long- established values, undermine our educational system and slash or trash any notion of be- lief in the almighty. Faith-based doctrines, in the minds of the far left, is a dogma that has out lived its usefulness. Through secular power, the objective of this force is to turn this nation into a society of ultra-progres- sive, do-as-you-please individ- uals that care less about moral values than they do of their twisted ideology of secular freedom. In my opinion, the sources of power driving the ideology of secular supremacy is wide-spread and involves huge amounts of money being placed in the hands of those who support an open and free society. In a word – the future of this nation will depend on the folks who cling to the more tradition- al values of character, family, spiritual veracity and societal behavior to put forth their ener- gy in defeating those who seek to destroy our traditional values in the name of change. We must not allow the radical left, the ACLU and the courts of law to dictate how we will live – now or in the future.
