Posi- tions are open for both parents and non-parent community members. Site councils were created by the Oregon legislature to fa- cilitate and encourage local di- rection of schools. Community member interested in local schools are urged to take ad- vantage of this opportunity to get involved. Applications are available at the District office, 475 Bridge Street, 503-429-5891. Civil War Demonstration, Harley Bike Rally & more Some exciting new events will be featured in the 2004 Ver- nonia Friendship Jamboree, which is quickly approaching. Friday night will start off with a bang as volunteer firefighters Talent competition at Columbia County Fair & Rodeo open to all Cash prizes of up to $200 will be given to the winner of the 2004 Columbia County Fair & Rodeo three-round talent competition, beginning Wed- nesday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. Area residents of all ages are invited to participate in the competition, which will be held on the Georgia Pacific stage at the Columbia County Fair- grounds. Rounds 2 and 3 of the competition will be on Friday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m., and Satur- day, July 24 at 2:00 p.m., on the same stage. The competition will be in two age groups, 15 & under, and 16 & over. The 15 & under group will be first to perform at each level of the competition. Talent categories include vocal, dance, instrumental, comedy, magic, pantomime, bands with vocals, or other suggested ar- eas. No “instrumental only” bands will be considered. First place in each group will receive $200 cash and an op- portunity to perform at the Ore- gon State Fair, in Salem, for cash prizes of up to $1,500. Second place will receive $150 cash and $75 will go to third place. Rules and entry forms can be picked up at West Oregon Electric Cooperative in Vernon- ia, Johnson Family Feed & Supply in Clatskanie, Alston Corner Feed Company in Rainier, South County Spotlight in Scappoose, Columbia Coun- ty Fair office in St. Helens, and the St. Helens-Scappoose Chamber of Commerce. Help is still needed with the garbage detail on Saturday and Sunday. This is available to or- ganizations or groups as a fundraiser, and requires about 4 hours work each day. If no or- ganizations or groups are inter- ested, individuals will then be consider.
