The INDEPENDENT, April 15, 2004 Columbia County Sheriff’s Dept. Vernonia Police Department Mar 13 – Two 17 yr olds, 1 male and 1 female, referred to Juvenile dept. for MIP following traffic stop on Nehalem Hwy, N outside of Vernonia. Mar 19 – 17 yr old male referred to Juvenile dept. for MIP following traffic stop on Alder St. Mar 26 – Kayaker between Anderson Park and Big Eddy reported hearing gunshots and rounds impacting in the trees around them. Mar 31 – Assisted DHS with juvenile threatening suicide; child transported to CCMH for evalua- tion. Apr 1 – Investigated report of domestic violence on Mist Dr.; determined to be verbal only, no arrests. – Vernonia Pride reported a hanging basket and a metal elk head on trash can stolen. Apr 5 – Country Kitchen report- ed two 50 ft garden hoses stolen overnight. No suspects identified. Apr 6 – Several signs around Vernonia Lake and the Linear Trail were reported stolen. Apr 8 – Troy Schenk, no age given, Vernonia, cited for harass- ment after verbal confrontation with four juveniles. – Responded to attempted sui- cide on California Ave.; adult female transported to hospital by Metro West. – Citizen reported that her wal- let fell off the top of her vehicle while she was driving between Rose Ave. and Mist Dr. Apr 11 – Noakes Rd. resident reported Criminal Mischief; the rear window of his vehicle was bro- ken out. Apr 12 – Student stole teacher’s cell phone at Washington GS; phone recovered, report sent to Juvenile Dept. – 1st Ave. resident reported gazing ball stolen from yard.
