Volunteers urgently needed for Jamboree committee
The 48th annual Vernonia
Friendship Jamboree will be
held August 6-8, 2004, and vol-
unteer help is needed!
During the February meet-
ing, the positions of President,
Vice President, Secretary and
Treasurer were vacated and
there was no interest by any of
the attendees in serving in

at the March meeting, the deci-
sion to dissolve the Jamboree
Committee will be made ac-
cording to the by-laws, and the
existing funds will be donated
to non-profit charities.

ning an event during Jam-
boree, please attend a meeting
soon so your event can be in-
cluded in advertising and event
publications.
In addition to the executive
positions that need to be filled,
the following committees must
be named; Grand Marshall and
Citizen of the Year, Advertising,
Parade, Waste Management,
T-shirt Sales, Vendors, and
Childrens’ Games. Now is the
time to volunteer. All the infor-
mation is available for a smooth
transition and the outgoing offi-
cers are more than willing to act
as mentors and advisors.

tion.
The Jamboree Theme Con-
test is starting. This year the
Jamboree Committee has de-
cided the theme should incor-
porate “Mill Town” in the title.
Please mail suggestions to Ver-
nonia Jamboree Committee,
P.O. Box 244, Vernonia, OR
97064. The winning entry will
receive a $50.00 savings bond
from U.S. Bank. The deadline
is April 1. The winning theme
will be annouced in the April 15
issue of The Independent.
After the theme contest,
there will be a T-shirt design
contest with the winner receiv-
ing a $50.00 savings bond. It is
acceptable to submit both a
theme and a T-shirt design by
the April 1 deadline.

NW Natural has scheduled
a public meeting on Tuesday,
March 2, to discuss the compa-
ny’s upcoming plans for stor-
age development at Mist. The
public is invited to meet the
storage development team, lis-
ten to a presentation, and ask
questions.
The meeting will be held at
the Mist-Birkenfeld Rural Fire
Department’s main station on
Hwy. 202 between Mist and
Birkenfeld, starting at 5:30 p.m.
The presentation will be at 6:00
p.m., followed by a question
and answer period. Refresh-
ments will be served.
