The INDEPENDENT, October 216 2003 Page 15 Results of Salmon Festival events Pumpkin Seed Spitting con test results; in the 2-5 year old category, 2 year-old Brooke Jordan of St. Helens won with a spit of 13 inches; in the 6-8 year-olds, 7 year-old Desiree Forcier of Vernonia won with a 3 foot, 9 inch spit; in the 9-11 year-olds, 9 year old Nick Kelly of Vernonia spit 13 feet; in the 12 to 17 year-olds, 12 year-old Sara Peck of Woodland, Wash., spit 24 feet, 11 inches. The winner of the Pumpkin Pie Baking contest was Tess Aldrich of Vernonia. Later, one of her pumpkin pies went for $16.00 in the pie auction. The adult winner of the Scarecrow Building Contest was Jerri Cropp with a cowboy scarecrow. The winners in the childrens’ contest were the Kel ly family and Sara Peck from Woodland, Wash. Pumpkin Carving Contest winners (in no particular order) were Emily Bergerson, Rachel Brown, Tim Brown, Samantha Hines, Amanda Jennings, Joey MacDiarmid, Logan Martin, Sara Peck, Alleggra Poetter, Sara Smith, Steven Stanch field, and Larissa Williams. Winning certificates in the Sidewalk Chalk Contest were (last names not provided) Most Creative - Nick (#21), Best on Theme - Rachel (#17), Most Colorful - Elise (#2), and All Around Best - Katelyn & Austin (#22). The Coloring Contest provid ed these winners: in the 3-5 year-olds Jarrett won 1st place. In the 6-8 year olds, Tori Dale- broux won 1st place, Bridger won 2nd, Michael won 3rd. In the 9-11 year olds, Mickell M iller won 1st place, Tasia Pond won 2nd, and Rachel Brown won 3rd. Rylan Pond won an honorable mention. The People’s Choice Art Contest ended in a tie between Alice & Eric Stein for their glasswork and Karyn O ’Dair for her work in acrylic. Justin Caputo won an air plane flight with Police Chief Mike Cahill for successfully dunking the chief the most times.
