Update on Lewis & Clark Bridge

w ill allow w ork to con tinue us­
ing th e re c e n tly re d e s ig n e d
process.
Last S u n d a y’s 12-hour e x ­
tended closu re did not go as
p la n n e d du e to m e c h a n ic a l
problem s with the crane sys­
tem tha t transports and low ers
the deck panels, so crew s w ere
unable to replace the panel.

ing a n o th e r extended nighttim e
closure.
T h e n e x t sc h e d u le d fu ll
nighttim e clo su re w ill be S u n ­
day, A ugu st 24, starting no e a r­
lier than 5:30 p.m ., w ith the
bridge re opening at 5:30 a.m.
M onday, A ugu st 25. The last
extended clo su re has not yet
been sche dule d, but w ill take
place on a S und ay night. The
public w ill receive at least tw o
w ee ks no tice w he n this e xte n d ­
e d clo su re s is sche dule d.
The extended nighttim e full
c lo s u re s are n e c e s s a ry fo r
crew s to rem ove and replace
three de ck panels located next
to tw o expansion joints on the
bridge. These panels are a t­
tached to the deck in a m ore
com plex w ay than the other
panels and require m ore tim e
to replace.
D u rin g full n ig h ttim e c lo ­
sures, the bridge is closed to all
traffic, including bicycles and
pedestrians. During single lane
closu res, flaggers guide traffic,
one direction at a tim e, with a
m axim um delay of 20 m inutes.
