Determined to be youth writ ing on lockers with erasable ink marker. No charges filed. - Arrested Jenniffer Lavern Evers for a Washington County warrant, at 916 Rose Avenue. As sisted by OSP-Banks. April 4 - Dog bite call at 209 B Street. Vicious dog complaint. Vic tim went to Tuality Hospital and was treated. Dog quarantined. Case was turned over to Columbia County Animal Control Officer. - Between April 3 and 4, un known persons removed antenna from a Dodge Mini Van at 866 1st Avenue. Value of antenna was $30.00. - Resident at 522 3rd Avenue reported telephone harassment. - Responded to an Alcohol- involved crash at McDonald and Pebble Creek Road, at the request of C-COM. Closest deputy was one hour away. Officer found two teenagers who had been drinking. April 5 - Rural victim of theft came to VPD to report theft. Victim referred to Columbia County Sher iff. - Arrest of Probation Violator Jack Kennedy at 530 Mist Dr. at the request of Columbia County Parole and Probation. - Theft of cash reported at Bridge Street Espresso. - Arrested Joshua Luttrell for two outstanding warrants. April 8 - Trespass service to high school youth. - Vernonia resident reported a concern of a local youth involved in a fight with another youth. Police contacted parent of youth. April 9 - VPD called to check welfare of community member. April 10 - Responded to alarm at West Oregon Electric. False alarm. April 13 - Police placed stray dog in holding kennel. Columbia County Animal Control was notified to pick up dog. No known suspects. April 15 - Officers responded to a silent alarm at US Bank. False alarm. - Vernonia resident complained of loud music on Ivy Street. Found resident to be sharpening chains for chainsaw. Wife advised him to stop. April 16 - VPD responded to a resident on A Street to do a welfare check on a youth who was report ed to have ingested an unknown substance. Parent contacted and all was okay. April 1, 2003 Michael Vanaken, no age or town given, pled guilty to Criminal Trespass with a Firearm; 30 days jail, suspended, 1 yr monitored bench probation, standard terms, 48 hrs community service at Banks-Vernonia State trail, no con- Legislation would revoke driver’s license for three DUII convictions A bill revoking the driver’s li cense of a person convicted for the third time of driving under the influence of intoxicants has been passed by The Oregon House on a 57-0 vote. Currently, someone convict ed of driving under the influ ence of intoxicants does not permanently lose driving privi leges until the fourth conviction. The offender can appeal the revocation after ten years. HB 2885 was sponsored by Rep. Jeff Barker (D-Aloha), a retired Portland police lieu tenant. “Driving under the influence of intoxicants is a reckless be havior that results in thousands of deaths in this country every year," Barker said, “ ...we are serious about preventing habit ual offenders from getting be hind the wheel. “As a former cop, I can tell you that someone with three DUII convictions has a sub stance abuse problem, and they need to be off the road. This legislation is long over due.” Before the bill can become law, it must be passed by the state senate and signed by the governor. After receiving several com plaints of early morning tres passing on Diblee Beach, in Rainier, the Oregon State Po lice, Fish and Wildlife Division, assisted by a Patrol Division member and other local law en forcement officers, conducted an early morning operation on April 5 at 4:30 a m at that location. Over 200 people were found to be in violation of the OAR governing entry onto Diblee Beach. The information has been subm itted to the Columbia County District Attorney in an ticipation of a grand jury hear ing.
