This one uses the internet to get infor mation from and about military personnel, posing as the “North American Center for Em er gency Communications.” It uses the web address <NACEC.org> and operates to gather information on U.S. armed forces and family mem bers. Claiming to be a support system for the military, the message says, “With the drasti cally increasing numbers of U.S. Armed Forces overseas, the North American Center for Emergency Communications (NACEC) has put their military family support ‘Flash Mail Ser vice' back on line, as of this week. This will help those members of the military sta tioned overseas and the mili tary families that have mem bers serving overseas." It claims to provide emer gency notifications in order to Jamboree Theme contest extended The Jamboree Theme Con test deadline for the 47th Ver nonia Friendship Jamboree has been extended to April 7. The site also asks the service member to provide a message to be sent to family members. This site is NOT associated with the federal government and should NOT be trusted. It is represented as being part of a not-for-profit corporation, but the website is registered to an individual in Minnesota. Infor mation provided could be used for identity theft, intelligence gathering by a foreign nation or terrorists and could pose a threat to service members, their families and their privacy.
