A m em orial service w as held February 15 at N ehalem Val ley C om m unity C hurch in Jew ell. Mr. H ough was born June 12, 1951, in Eureka, C alif., to Jack and Ada Shoem aker Hough. He attended Yuba C ity (Calif.) HigtuSchool. He w as a Boy S cout throughout childhood and be cam e a leader and m em ber of the O r der of the Arrow. He m oved to B eaver ton in 1969 and w orked for the C ity of Beaverton as a car m echanic fo r 10 years. He then jo in e d the N ational Guard, serving as sergeant. He m oved to Jew ell and w orked as a log truck driver for m any years. In 1980, he m arried Barbara York. He was preceded in death by his wife and father, and a son, S hannon Hill. Survivors include a son, Larry of Portland; tw o daughters, Tana Han- thorn of Soldotna, Alaska, and Shirley B u tle r of P o rtla n d ; his m other, of M arysville, C alif.; three sisters, Brenda Lynch, Terry Jacques and Denise S ulli van, all of M arysville; three brothers, Ron and Randy, both of M arysville, and Jeff of Arcata, Calif.; five grandchildren. He grew up on the fam ily farm in Youngs R iver and graduated from A storia High School. In 1937, he m arried A lice Hertig. They built a hom e on the fam ily farm . He and his brother, Toivo M ustonen, operated a log dum p and log boom s from 1938 to 1964. In 1964, he w ent to w ork for C row n Z ellerbach in Youngs River, until 1974, w hen he retired. He had also w orked for C arlson B rothers Logging Com pany, Van Vleet Logging, Lloyd C hristensen Trucking, 3M L o g ging, Reed H alding Log Com pany, E l liot Transfer Trucking, and W estern Transportation.
