Page 10 The INDEPENDENT, March 6, 2003____________ Fundraising underway for annual Drug/Alcohol-Free All-Night party For the past 20 years, par ents of Vernonia seniors have provided a Drug and Alcohol Free All-Night Party for gradu ates after the graduation cere mony. The tradition began to provide a fun and safe environ ment to celebrate on gradua tion night, and in those 20 years, there has never been an injury to a VHS graduate. One goal is to provide each student with a souvenir and reminder of a fun, safe and memorable evening. This year, the party will be June 8, 2003. Donations of any kind, such as m erchandise, service coupons, gift certificates, T- shirts, sweatshirts, hats or cash to purchase additional prizes and to offset the cost of the par ty are necessary. All donations are welcome and are greatly appreciated. Donations must be received no later than June 5. Checks should be made payable to VHS Grad Night Party and be mailed to Susan Robertson, Vernonia High School, 299 Bridge Street, Ver nonia, OR 97064. Spaghetti dinner and Bingo will benefit DC 2003 It’s not easy for a group of students to raise enough mon ey for a trip to Washington, D.C., but spaghetti and bingo can help! A Spaghetti Dinner and Bin- go Night will be held March 15 at the Vernonia Community Church, 957 State Avenue, to benefit the DC 2003 group. Dinner will be served starting at 5:00 p.m., followed by bingo beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dinner and one bingo hard card will be $5.00 for children 10 and under; for adults the event will be $7.00 for dinner and one bingo hard card. Addi tional hard cards (good for 15 games) will be $5.00 each. Pa per cards for special games will be $1.00 each. Correction In a February 20 article about Vernonia students who have received recognition for outstanding academic achievement in post-second- ary education, one name was misspelled. Kayla Hennessey was named to the Western Ore gon University Honor Roll for the 2002 fall quarter. We are pleased to set the record straight.
