Page 20 The INDEPENDENT, December 19, 2002 Obituary LARRY E. HOLSEY Larry Edward Holsey, 54, Pahrump, Nevada, died December 14, 2002. Ser vices will be held December 20 at Haakinson-Groulx Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Ron Jacobson, officiating. Vault interment will be at Murray Hill Cemetery in Clatskanie. Mr Holsey was born December 6, 1948, in Tilliamook, to Warren and Frances Bell Hansen Holsey. He grew up in Vernonia and graduated from Ver nonia High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In 1997, he married Karen Kay Kervo. He worked as a lineman for Valley Electric Utility and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #125 in Portland. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bruce and Erick of Clatskanie; one sis ter, Joan Moore of Aloha; five brothers, Don and Carl of Vernonia, Dennis of Brush Prairie, Jack of Hillsboro, Lawrence "Spud” of Tualatin; one grandchild; nieces and nephews. SHETLER Lois M. Shetler, 72, Wamic, died December 1, 2002. A funeral service was held December 7 at Madras Con servative Baptist Church. Interment was at Antelope Cemetery. Mrs. Shetler was born March 16, 1930, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Jacob and Mary Buckwalter Roth. They moved to Upland, California, in 1931 and to Har risburg in 1942. She wrote the words for her high school graduating class song, "Meet for the Master's Use," which is now published in the book Songs That Live. In 1950, she married Eldon Shetler. He was hall manager and she worked in the kitchen at Western Mennonite School near Salem. In 1951, they moved to Yale, Washington, where they started Pleasant Valley Community Church. They also spent 22 years pas- toring in Birkenfeld, a year in Winston, eight years in Gateway, Colorado, and four years in Ashwood. In 1995, they moved to Antelope, then to Wamic in 2001. Survivors include four sons, Forest of Birkenfeld, Earl of Holland, Mich., Chip of Wamic, Jasper of Birkenfeld; six daughters, Janet Ewing of Holland, Mich., Robin Shetler of Baker City, Blossom Teele of Birkenfeld, Melody Shetler of Gateway, Colo., Starla Hen- ninger of Lancaster, Pa., Jewell Seacrest of Grand Junction, Colo., 32 grandchildren; three great-grandchil dren. RABON Johnny Alfred Rabon, 38, Hillsboro, died November 26, 2002. Services were private. Mr. Rabon was born August 8, 1964, in Portland, to George and Mardell Olson Rabon. He grew up in Banks and graduated from Banks High School. In 1994, he moved to Hillsboro. He worked at Tualatin Valley Workshop and was a member of the Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two brothers, David of Hillsboro and Danny of Banks; a sister, Janice L. Harris of Banks; nieces and nephews. Mr. Miller was born April 19, 1909, in Cornelius. He was parts manager at Doherty Ford in Forest Grove. He re tired in 1971. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Rockaway and then to Yuma, Arizona. He was a member of Holbrook Ma sonic Lodge. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife, Esther I. Snider Miller. Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Haldors of Milwaukie; nieces; and grandnieces and nephews. Remembrances are suggested to Masonic & Eastern Star Home Endow ment Fund, Forest Grove. WANDA M. THOMAS Wanda Mae Thomas, 64, died De cember 4, 2002. Ms. Thomas was born March 11, 1938, in Geary, Oklahoma, to Fred and Anna Evey. She was a warehouse worker at Shrock Cabinets. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Vicki Cross; and a brother, Harold Evey. Survivors include long-time com panion, Edwin Sandy; six brothers, Gail Evey of Hillsboro, Dan Evey of Inde pendence, Larry Evey of Tillamook, Widney Evey of Buxton, Edmond Evey of Manning, Lonnie Evey of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; two sisters, Charolette Ziegler of Vernonia, Grace Knowlton of Evanston, Wyoming; two grandchil dren; one great-grandchild. Because the number of drunk drivers increases during the holidays, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office has beefed up its DUII patrols for the holiday season and this year, for the first time, the Traf- Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Vernonia, with Pastor Jim Louviere of the Celebration Fellowship in Hillsboro, officiating. Private interment was held. Mrs. Ensign was born June 9, 1922, in Winfield, Kansas, to Charles and Pearl Sutton Bonewell. She moved, by covered wagon, to Colorado, where she grew up. In 1936, they moved to Sunnyside, Washington. In 1970, she married Robert L. En sign. They lived in Taylorsville, Missis sippi. In 1972, they moved to the Ore gon coast and, in 1993, to Vernonia. Mrs. Ensign was a harvest worker and later earned a Licensed Practical Nurse certificate and worked as an LPN. She was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters. Survivors include her husband; two sons, William Gant of Sunnyside, Washington, Jerry Thomas of Mans field, Washington; a daughter, Judie Rand of Vernonia; five stepchildren, Kerry Ensign of Olympia, Washington, Marcus Ensign of Germany, Marcel Klett of Battle Creek, Michigan, Kris En sign of Othello, Washington, and Heidi Carter of Lacey, Washington; 24 grand children; 22 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A funeral was held De cember 13 in Finley’s Sunset Hills Mor tuary. Mrs. Patterson was born March 2, 1916, in Improve, Miss. Her maiden name was Morris. In 1947, she moved to Vernonia and, in 1964, to Portland. In 1939, she married Dewey F. Pat terson. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Zachary; three daughters, Rosemary Nackers, Patty Jo Diamond and Evelyn C. Coler; two sisters, Victrine Williams and Dorothy Patterson; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to Portland First Baptist Church.
