Steph anie was a little shaken; yet mad at herself for not being able to roll out of the situation. After a brief rest we were back on the water and ready for more. When we got to Husum Falls we all got out and went to the bridge to get a look at the falls, which is about eight feet high. Husum falls is very im pressive, but Mike and I had al ready made up our minds that we were going to run it. While we watched, another group of kayakers ran the falls, so we watched their lines into the one and only slot to run the falls successfully. Stephanie decid ed to sit out the falls and in stead used my camera to take pictures of Mike and me. Husum Falls was a blast; Mike made a perfect run and booted (kayak term - to launch off an object) off a rock and side carved a landing. Mike said I disappeared up to my neck in the white froth on my deep landing. Husum Falls is rated a Class V run, but at the water flows when we ran it, we figured it as only a Class III. Af ter watching us have so much fun, Stephanie decided to run the falls, too, and also had a good run. We then ran the low er White Salmon with Rat tlesnake as the only rapid of consequence. The White Salmon is known as a world- class white water river and now I know why.
