“Punk, Rotten and Nasty” author
will speak at Banks Public Library
The history of the Pacific
Railway & Navigation Co. has
been thoroughly documented
in a book by local author Paul
Michael Clock, who will speak
at the Banks Public Library on
Thursday, October 3, at 7:00
p.m.
Clock’s book, Punk Rotten &
Nasty, tells the story of the con
struction of the railroad line
now known as the Port of
Tillamook Bay Railroad, includ
ing interesting details about
towns that sprang up as the rail
line advanced. Pacific Railway
& N avigation (PR&N) was
dubbed “Punk Rotten & Nasty”
by the men who worked on it
because of its many blind
curves and high risk in an area
often foggy and wet. Clock’s
presentation will include slides
of some photos that were not
included in the book.
Copies of the book will be
available for purchase in paper
back as well as a commemora
tive signed and numbered
hardbound edition.
Jane Kirkpatrick will speak, sign
books at Vernonia Public Library
Jane Kirkpatrick, the award
winning author of ten books, in
cluding A Sweetness to the
Soul, and winner of the W ran
gler for the Outstanding W est
ern Novel of 1995, will be at the
Vernonia Public Library on
Sunday, September 22 from 1 -
2:30 p.m. Kirkpatrick will be
signing copies of each of her
books, including her newest
novel, A Name o f H er Own.
This work of historical fiction is
based on the life of Marie Dori-
on, the first mother to cross the
Rocky Mountains and remain in
the Northwest.
The public is invited to meet
Kirkpatrick, enjoy refreshments
and discussion with the author
and, if you wish, to purchase
autographed copies of any of
her books. This event is spon
sored by the Library Board and
The Friends of the Library.

Twenty-one intellectual free

books, two were to videotapes,
one was to an audio book and
