The same day Mr. Jenson’s letter came out, ground was being broken for a new thirty thousand seat concert hall, paid for by business and gov ernment. Where? Not here in Columbia County, but right across the river in Ridgefield, WA. So, unfortunately, we won’t even get our “Cocaine Cowboy concerts, with cheap wine and cigarettes, a couple of nights each year” as you said, Mr. Jenson. But, hopefully, we’ll get a new* County Commissioner in November. On that note, I would like to give a sincere thank you to the residents who purchased home compost bins from Columbia County. We soid a generous 150 bins to local residents. That means almost 477,000 pounds of organic debris will be home composted and diverted from our local landfill, based on the average family producing about 3,180 pounds of organic garbage per year. The composting bins play an important role in reducing the amount of organic waste going to our landfills. The home composting effort is invaluable in promoting waste reduction and, more importantly, instilling the value and need for waste reduction among our local resi dents.
