Food donations will earn Fairgoers ticket discount PCC will continue classes in
Community Awareness Day,
July 21, will mark a county wide
food drive to be held at the Co­
lumbia County Fair in St. He­
lens. All proceeds will benefit
Columbia Pacific Food Bank in
St. Helens, the regional food
bank which distributes food to
community food banks in the
county.
Fairgoers who donate non­
perishable food items on July
21, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m., will receive $1.00 off ad­
mission to the fair.
There will also be a raffle
with a grand prize of three
nights in Las Vegas for two
people. Tickets are $1.00 each
and will be sold at the fair­
grounds from opening day,
July 17, through Sunday, July
21.
The drawing will be on Sun­
day, July 21. You need not be
present to win, however the
grand prize winner must be at
least 21 years old.

Vernonia during fall 2002 term
Despite rumors throughout
the community, Portland Com­
munity College (PCC) will con­
tinue to hold both credit and
non-credit classes in Vernonia
in the Fall 2002 term. Ed Kaile,
Community Education Coordi­
nator for PCC, said that Math
60 and Math 65 will be offered
again, provided that a minimum
of eight students enroll. Kim
Wallace will be the instructor for
the Tuesday and Thursday
math classes running Sept. 24
through Dec. 12.
Both beginning and interme­
diate, non-credit Conversation­
al Spanish courses will also be
available, with instructor Carol
Sawyer.

just added Kids Zone to the
line-up for the July 19 concert
at Columbia Meadows, on Hwy.
30 in Deer island. Gates open
at 6:00 p.m., with the show
starting at 8:00 p.m.
To help bring more families
out for the event, kids under 12
will get into the show for $5.00
(General Admission only) with
the purchase of one or more
adult tickets. While at the show,
kids will have pony rides, a pet­
ting zoo and lots of games to
keep them busy.

cent of operating revenues arc
covered by students’ tuition.
PCC attendance is at an all-
time high and, according to
Christopher, 25-percent of high
school graduates in the PCC
district attended PCC in last
year’s fall term.
