2002 Vernonia Friendship Jamboree Safe, reliable Jamboree babysitting service offered If you need babysitting dur ing Jamboree weekend, Verno nia High School Cheerleaders will provide that service for chil dren ages two to 12, at a secure, central location. The cost will be $1.50 per hour for the first child in a fam i ly, $2.75 per hour for two chil dren, and $1.00 per hour for each additional child. Snacks and sleeping bags will be pro vided. The cheerleaders will play games, watch videos, and generally have a good time with the children and there will be adult supervision. Lights will go out at midnight so that every one can get some sleep. Babysitting will be provided Friday night, August 2, and Saturday night, August 3, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the fol lowing morning. Children may be dropped off as late as 9:00 p.m. However, the doors will be locked and no child will be released between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. The overnight rate will be charged for any child staying after 1:00 a.m. Registration is required; to pre-register call Schann Nelson at 503 429-8930. Registration will also be accepted at the door during Jamboree, on a space available basis. Page 23 Two days of Christian concerts scheduled for Jamboree weekend Christian music concerts will be taking place on the lawn between the Vernonia C om m unity Church and the First Baptist Church, on A Street between State and W ashington Avenues, both Friday and Saturday at 4:00 p.m. “Assumable Loan,” a versa tile band from Vancouver, Washington, that performs a variety of original and popular music, will play on Friday. Back by popular demand is “Soul Shot,” a funk, disco, R&B and classic rock band from McMinnville, that will perform on Saturday. A local praise group will lead the audience in choruses and hymns. Alternative Stage offers free music throughout Jamboree weekend This y e a r’s A lternative stage, located in the lot behind the Joy Theater and the Lyon’s Den, will be rocking Jamboree starting Friday at 4:00 p.m., and continuing through the weekend, ending Sunday. The Alternative Stage is the original, and only, free three day music festival in the coastal Have a Safe & Happy Jamboree! Country Kitchen & Pizza mountain region. All who attend are encour aged to be comfortable, bring ing any items necessary to reach that goal. Audience par ticipation is encouraged during this casual, outdoor event. The Alternative Stage is free, live entertainment. Donations are gladly accepted to help off set the expenses of musicians who traveled a long way to per form. A tip jar will be available.
