The INDEPENDENT, July 4, 2002 Page 9 Ten graduates in Jewell High School Class of 2002 VHS Cheerleaders Ten graduates were honored at graduation ceremonies for the Jewell High School Class of 2002, on June 8. National Honor Society members were Amber Wood, Jesse Fox, Katie Clarke, Jef frey Leiferman and Sarah Lut trell. Wood gave the valedictory address and Fox was the salu- tatorian. Fox received a scholarship for two years tuition to Clatsop Community College, a Jewell Memorial Scholarship and the Thomas Rochester award. The Mist-Birkenfeld Helping circle award, a Jewell Memorial Scholarship and one of two awards from West Oregon Electric Cooperative went to Wood. Jeff Lieferman received the second WOEC award, and a Jewell Memorial Scholarship. Jewell Memorial Scholar ships were also awarded to Clarke and Luttrell. provide babysitting during Jamboree If you will need babysitting during Jamboree weekend, Vernonia High School Cheer leaders will be happy to provide that service for children ages two to twelve, at a secure, cen tral location. The cost will be $1.50 per hour for the first child in a fami ly, $2.75 per hour for two chil dren, and $1.00 per hour for each additional child. Overnight care will be provided for a max imum of $30 per child. Snacks and sleeping bags will be pro vided. The cheerleaders will play games, watch videos, and generally have a good time with the children and there will be adult supervision. Lights will go out at midnight so that every one can get some sleep. Babysitting will be provided Friday night, August 2, and Sat urday night, August 3, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the fol lowing morning. Children may be dropped off as late as 9:00 p.m. However, the doors will be locked and no child will be re leased between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Any child staying af ter 1:00 a.m. will be charged the overnight rate. Registration is required; to pre-register call Schann at 503 429-8930. Registration will also be accepted at the door during Jamboree, if space is available. VHS Cheerleaders must earn over $750 each to cover the costs of participation, uni forms, camp and competition fees. Three graduate from Oregon State Three Vernonia High School graduates - Corey Dinger, Erin Davis and Jessica Jones - graduated from Oregon State University on June 16, 2002. Dinger received his Bachelor of Science in Business Admin- istration/Finance and graduat ed cum laude. He is the son of Gerry and Alison Dinger of Ver nonia. Davis received her Bachelor of Science in Human Develop ment and Family Studies, Early Childhood Development & Ed ucation. Jones received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administra- tion/lnternational Business, with a minor in French. She is the daughter of Claudia Ryan of Vernonia Tegan Jones named to SOU Dean’s List Tegan L. Jones, a Vernonia High School graduate, was named to the Dean’s List at Southern Oregon University for the 2002 winter quarter. To be included on the Dean’s List, a student must earn a 3.5 grade point average, or higher, while taking at least 12 graded credit hours of classes. She is the daughter of Clau dia Ryan of Vernonia. Eve Morgan on George Fox Dean’s List Evie Morgan of Vernonia has been named to the George Fox University Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 2001-02 academic year.
