think summer is here, but it
hasn’t made up its mind. It’s a
little too hot a little too soon,
and the poor Queen A nn’s lace
is blooming too early. The lake
is nice and cool at Oviatt’s
Cove, though.
Our Father’s Day came off
nicely, I thought. Good music,
good meal and three ladies
read poetry to the Fathers and
Grandfathers and, of course, all
the Mothers, too. We presented
a gift of appreciation to Louisa

Rodeo books have been dis

the county. They are available
at The Independent office in

outline the week-long happen
ing at this year’s fair.
Junior Rodeo Entry Applica
tions are now being accepted
at the Fair Office. There is a
maximum of eight entries per
event. Barrel Racing, Steer
Daublin’, Steer/Calf Riding and
Breadaway Roping for ages 18
and under are being offered.

pounds or less, may enter Mut

zens - the Newest Father.
Most children - Norbert Pel
ster had the Most Children and
Bill Yeo had the Most Grand
children.
Several fun prizes were
drawn and the door prize went
to Janice Gray.
Next, coming up on our cal
endar is July. The center will
have a special lunch on the 3rd,
music and all. The auction for
adults and kids is on the 4th
from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Then, on
Monday the 8th, Christmas in
July and Halloween Too, starts
- through the 13th. There are
going to be many good bar
gains, so put it on your calen
dar.
Oh yes, do n’t forget the
parade on the 4th. Be sure and
look for the Vernonia Cares
entry. Bill Yeo and a friend will
be charging up and down on 3
wheelers hoping to raise $$ for
their Christmas in July Food
and Fund for Christmas. They
are doing very important work
in this community and need
your help (hands on) and finan
cial support. The White House
may say things are turning
around financially, but in Ore
gon and Columbia County, you
can’t see it. They have had an
increase in people served in
the month of May.
Coming up in August is the
Senior Picnic, so watch for that.
Affordable
monthly rates
In the center, a lady donated
a Patriotic Quilt for raffling.
Tickets are three for $1.00. The
drawing date will be September
11.
I know its hot, too hot to
cook, so come in and enjoy
Jam ie’s cookin Monday, Wed
nesday and Friday, as well as
Carol’s on Tuesday and Thurs
day. Look at it this way, no heat
in your kitchen and no dishes to
do.
Any ideas you’d like to see
at the center, come in and let
us know. We would appreciate
your input. It’s your center.
some of you.
Please don’t be a m ush

your town.
