Page 20 The INDEPENDENT, May 2, 2002 ...— ■— • I Obituary DARRELL J. FLUKE Darrell J. Fluke, 63, Eugene, died April 19, 2002. A memorial service was held at England’s Eugene Memorial Chapel on April 24. Mr. Fluke was born July 31, 1938, in Forest Grove, to James and June Mc Nutt Fluke. He grew up in Vernonia and graduated from Vernonia High School. He served in the U S. Navy in the sub marine service from 1956 to 1958 and then in the reserves. In 1961, he married Brenda Wilson. He was a member of the Springfield Elks, Eugene Country Club and Wood haven Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif. Mr. Fluke was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kelly Barber and Susan Bratton, both of Eugene; three grand children; and his mother. England’s Eugene Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. DORA L. RYKER Dora Lee Ryker, 65, Banks, died April 14, 2002. Private Interment was held. Mrs. Ryker was born January 19, 1937, in Jerome, Idaho. As a child, she was adopted by R. Howard and Elva Lovina (Dixon) Andrus. She grew up in Jerome and Ucon, Idaho. In 1954, she moved to a farm in Milo, Idaho. In 1965, she moved to San Francisco, Calif., then to Banks in 1966. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Vernonia ward. She was preceded in death by a son, David Barnes; and a stepson, Randal Ryker. Survivors include three sons, Kendle and Mark Barnes, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Arlen Hahn of Banks; three daughters, Linnea Schmidlin of Banks, Anna Marie Butte of Corbett, and Sharon Normand of Scappoose; a stepson, Robert Ryker of Pleasant Hill; two brothers; one sister; 19 grandchil dren, 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. SYLVESTER SKAGGS Sylvester Skaggs, 77, Buxton, died April 18, 2002. Funeral services were held April 23 at the Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove, with Pastor Rich LaMar, of the Gales Creek Church of God, officiating. Interment was at Buxton Cemetery in Buxton. Mr. Skaggs was born February 3, 1925, in Story, Arkansas, to Levi Lois and Ila Lottie Ann George Skaggs. He grew up in Orienta, Oklahoma. He owned and operated the Exxon Service Station at Manning and raised strawberries, blackcaps and prunes. He also worked for the Oregon Primate Center, the Banks School District and Banks Lumber Company. Mr. Skaggs was preceded in death by his wife in 2001, and a sister, Hazel McGee. Survivors include a son, Rick of Buxton; five daughters, Shirley Huff of Cornelius, Lisa Stone of Buxton, Michelle Griffin of Vernonia, Pam Payne of Gaston, Crystal of Buxton; his mother, Ila of Shawnee, Okla.; three brothers, Garvin and Melvin, both of Shawnee, and Cecil of El Mirage; four sisters, Lois Guinn of Buxton, Leta of Shawnee, Alice Jones of El Mirage, and Joyce Talley of Glendale, Ariz.; ten grandchildren; nieces and nephews. BUCKLEY Walter R. Buckley, 67, Forest Grove, died April 15, 2002. Graveside services and interment were held April 19 at Hillside Cemetery in Forest Grove, with the Reverend C. Eugene Sabin officiating. Mr. Buckley was born July 28, 1934, in Forest Grove, to Ralph and Fae Whipple Buckley. He grew up in Forest Grove and graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserve and was discharged in 1963. In 1982, he married Peggy Smith- Norby. They lived in Cornelius until moving to Vernonia in 1988. In 1999, they moved to Forest Grove. Mr. Buckley worked at Portland Livestock, Portland Union Stockyards and Woodburn Auction. He also logged on his property in Vernonia. Survivors include his wife; a daugh ter, Dawn Rae Warner of Tigard; three step-sons, Ron Norby and Troy Williams, both of Vancouver, Wash.; Travis Norby of Lake Oswego; two step-daughters, Karen Wickson of Hillsboro, and Sharon Balcom of Forest Grove; six grandchildren. Mr. Russell was born January 21, 1977, in Hillsboro, to Ronald Russell and Debra Hodgdon Jameson. He grew up in the Portland area and at tended Milwaukie High School from 1992 to 1994. He worked on the set up crew for Fleetwood Homes, as a cabinet maker, an automobile detailer, and a camera man/satellite technician for Portland Meadows race track. Survivors include his mother of Austin, Texas; his father of Vancouver; KRISTOPHER R. RUSSELL Kristopher Ryan Russell, 25, Van couver, Wash., died April 25, 2002. Graveside services were held April 29 at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery, with Pastor Grant Williams, of the Vernonia Community Church, officiating.
