He will be recognized in ceremonies on May 4, at 2:00 p.m., at the his toric Mist Church in Mist. A m em ber of LDS Troop #860, Morrow is one of approx imately 2.5 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Jim Waters. Each candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church or synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle. As his project, M orrow chose to help renovate the Mist Church. The project required years old. Morrow has served as Assis tant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader and is currently the As sistant Scout Master for Troop #860. He has also recently been nominated for a heroism award, for pulling a friend from Big Eddy on the Nehalem Riv er, while on a swimming outing. Anthony Morrow Illegal trash fire gets away, burns timberland In early April, a fire at a Tim ber Road residence ignited ap proximately 6.5 acres of brush and timber land, requiring the services of four fire depart ments to bring it under control and extinguish it. According to Fire Chief Paul Epler of the Vernonia Rural Fire Protection District, Kevin Lee Grove, 41,54170 Timber Road, Vernonia, was burning garbage without a burn permit, when the fire got away and spread to ad jacent property. In addition to the Vernonia RFPD, fire appartus and per sonnel were dispatched from the Banks Fire District, Mist- Birkenfeld Fire District and the Oregon Dept. of Forestry. The Scappoose Fire District sent equipment and personnel to man the fire station in Vernonia because all available personnel were at the Timber Road fire. Because he was burning without a permit, Grove will be responsible for the expenses incurred by all of the fire dis tricts. Whether he will also be fined for his actions, will be de termined by ODF. According to Mike Simek, of the Colum bia City office of ODF, the “pre-green-up” fire is fairly common because light fu els of dead grass and ferns are thick in late winter and early spring. While the foliage is wet, there is little danger, but be cause it is light, it can dry out in only a few hours of wind and/or sun. There have been similar, smaller fires in the area, also.
