The iNUfcHfcNUtN T, January 2, 2002 VIOLET A. “BABE” DREESZEN Violet Amelia “Babe” Dreeszen, 99, North Plains, died December 17, 2001. A funeral was held December 21 at Fuiten Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove, with the Rev. C. Eugene Sabin officiating. Interment was in Union Point Cemetery in Banks. "A Trusted alarne in fu n e r a l Service" Mrs. Dreeszen was born December 3, 1902, in Wilsonville, to Frank and Amelia Wilson Gosser. She grew up in Wilsonville. In 1925, she married John M. “Max” Dreeszen. They lived in Sherman’s Mill until 1935, when they moved to Banks. Mrs. Dreeszen moved to North Plains in 1999. She picked crops, baked bread for neighbors and was a floor lady for R.D. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980, and four siblings. Survivors include a son, Dale of Yakima, Wash ; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FATHER ERVIN VANDEHEY Father Ervin Vandehey, 82, Beaver ton, died December 8, 2001. A memori al mass was celebrated December 18 in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy, with Father Todd Molinari, cele brant. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Portland. Father Vandehey was born Novem ber 26, 1919, in Forest Grove, to William E. and Mary Hermens Vande hey. He grew up in Verboort. He received his bachelor's degree from the seminary at Mount Angel in 1943 and a Master of Divinity degree from St. Edward Seminary in Kenmore, Wash., in 1946. He was ordained in 1946 by Archbishop Howard. Father Vandehey served as an as sociate for 10 years in Milwaukie, Salem and Portland. He served as pas tor of Holy Trinity Parish in Bandon, Holy Redeemer Parish in North Bend and St. Joseph Parish in Portland. He retired in 1990. Father Vandehey also learned American Sign Language and, for a number of years, served as Catholic chaplain to the hearing impaired. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include four sisters, Mar cella “Molly" Herb, Elaine Duyck and Regina Van Domelen, all of Roy, and Florence Van Domelen of Cornelius; four brothers, Adrian and Stanley, both of Hillsboro, Ignatius of Roy, and Nor man of Banks; nieces and nephews. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove was in charge of arrangements. ROBENA A. REED Robena A. Reed, 90, Beaverton, died December 16, 2001. A memorial service was held December 21 at Lau rel Community Church in Scholls, with Pastor Don Jensen officiating. Inter ment was in Mountainside Cemetery in Scholls. Mrs. Reed was born October 10, 1911, in Portland, to Donald Louis and Edith Mary Pavey Bate. She grew up in Kalama, Wash., and graduated from Page 11 Kalama High School. She attended Washington State University. In 1932, she married Ethan Averitt Reed. They lived in Oak Grove from 1934 to 1945 and in Kinton from 1945 to 1960. They moved to Buxton in 1960 and returned to Kinton in 1972. Mrs. Reed served on the Groner School Board while living in Kinton and received an award for 50 years in the Extension Service while a member of the Groner Extension Unit. She was an active member of Kinton EUB Church and attended Manning Bible Church and Laurel Community Church. She worked at Teufel Holly Farm in Portland for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; a brother, Donald, and a sister, Edith Littlejohn. Survivors include a son, Ethan Averitt, Jr. of Hillsboro; two daughters, Leila Edith of Beaverton, and A. Joy Stevenson of Aguanaga, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Merz of Grand Ronde; two brothers, Arthur of Kalama, Wash., and Alex of Redmond. Remembrances are suggested to Laurel Community Church, 30640 SW Laurel Road, Hillsboro, OR 97123, or to Northwest Medical Teams.
