Gospel singer will perform at Christian men’s retreat I Haalth Hates___________________ Widely acclaimed gospel singer Johnny Ray Watson will participate in the Columbia County Christian Men’s Retreat, to be held at Larry Steele’s Sports Camp in Ver nonia on February 1 and 2. ByAudeen Wagner New Personnel Welcome Additions Kale Lawrence Sullivan Kale Lawrence Sullivan was born November 27, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, to Todd and Tamara Sullivan of Vernonia. He weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 19- 1/2 inches long. He joins brothers Lane and Clay, and a sister, Meghan, at the family home in Vernonia. Grandparents are Steve and Sue Minger of Vernonia and Larry and Sue Sullivan of Madras. Great-grandparents are Charlie and Irene Minger of Salem and Roy and Dolores Thomas of Tigard. All men are welcome. Early registration deadline for the retreat is January 1. The theme for the weekend is “It’s Time for Revival”. Pastor Grant Williams of Vernonia Community Church will be the featured speaker. Watson was raised in Loren zo, Texas, and accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 12. For the past 24 years he has sung in hun dreds of churches, athletic sta- diums, convention centers, schools and crusades. Watson has also been fea tured by some of America’s most well-known ministries, including the Billy Graham Cru sades, the Professional Ath letes Outreach, the America for Jesus rallies and Moody Bible Institute. Jessie Johnston is the new Patient Relations Representative, joining Sue East at the front desk. She will be working about 20 hours per week. Jessie has lived all her life in this area, graduat ing from Vernonia Schools in 1984. She attended PCC-Rock Creek for a short while before getting married-she and husband Dean live in Birkenfeld with their three children: Joel, 16, Jake,14 and Jalina,11. All three kids are very active in sports, and this keeps them all very busy. Dad coaches at Jewell school (after completing his regular job!) and Mom is an avid fan and booster. Jessie has worked as a school bus driver, and is still an on-call driver on the days she is not at the clinic. She has also worked as an Instructional Aide. She was a very busy lady following the famous “Flood of ‘96” when she spent many long days helping flood victims in the Mist area, working out of the Mist-Birkenfeld Fire Department office. She is also a fire department volunteer, works in Search and Rescue, and drives the ambulance. Her hobbies are centered around her and her family’s interests: sports, horses, and trips to the family cabin in eastern Oregon. Don't ask me how they find time for all that! Jessie is excited about her job. “Providence is a great organi zation, and I really enjoy working with the great people here at the clinic." Adding to patient care at Providence Family Medicine-Vernon ia is Dawn Carr, M.A. She works part time, about three days a week, working with Jeanette and assisting with office routines. Dawn received her training in Arizona, graduating from Bryman School of Nursing in 1986, with a Certificate as a Medical Assis tant. She has also had training in CPR, First Aid, and recently had training from OSHA, adding a certificate in industrial safety to her skills. Her work experience includes working as a Medical Assis tant in Arizona, working for five doctors in family practice and obstetrics. She also worked at a Tuality medical clinic, and at Providence Tanasbourne. Dawn and her husband, Tom, have lived in Vernonia for about eight years and have four children: Tiffany is a freshman at Ari zona State University; Stephanie is in seventh grade, Tommy is in sixth grade, and Brianna is a third grader. The whole family is into riding, and keep their four horses busy with barrel racing and oth er competition—all have trophies and ribbons to show for their efforts. They also enjoy hunting and “anything outdoors.” “I really love my job, and it’s so nice to be able to work in my field, so close to home. I think the staff at this clinic is unique in the way they all work together and get along so well.” Season’s Greetings Providence Family Medicine-Vernonia wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas.
