Church Bulletin Bloopers The Pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake break fast next Sunday morning. 6 egg whites 1 pint whipping cream, whipped to stiff peaks 1/2 cup chopped nuts 1 envelope unflavored gelatin 1/2 cup cold water 1/2 cup hot water 2 tsp. vanilla 3/4 cup sugar 1 lb. oreo cookies, crushed 12 cherries (optional) Soak gelatin in cold water, then add hot water to dissolve. Add vanilla. Beat egg whites and add sugar. Combine gelatin mixture with eggs and sugar. Fold in whipped cream. Place half of the crushed cookies in a 9 x 13-inch pan and press down evenly. Spread gelatin mixture over evenly. Place remaining cookies on top, spreading evenly and patting down gently and smoothly. Place in refrigerator and allow to set overnight. Cut in slices or squares and top with cherries and/or nuts and additional whipped cream, if desired. Serves 12. » • » • Z « t t t • t t • ■ • - • ! Page 7 GREAT-GREAT GRANDMA EKSTEIN’S NUT DUMPLING DESSERT (from Tara Bamburg) Syrup: 1 tbs. butter 1 cup water 2 cups brown sugar Put into pan and bring to boil, or until sugar is dissolved. Pour into oblong baking dish. Dough: 1 tbs. butter 1/2 cup brown sugar 2-1/2 cups flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 cup walnuts (black or english) 1 cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla or black walnut flavoring Mix dough ingredients together thoroughly and drop by spoon fuls into syrup. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in 325 degree oven, or until golden brown. Serve either hot or cold with whipped cream or-ice cream. HOT FUDGE PUDDING (from Margaret Baynes) 1/2 cup milk 1 tbs. melted margarine 1 cup chopped nuts 1 cup brown sugar 1-3/4 cup hot water 1 cup sifted flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup + 2 tbs. cocoa Sift together dry ingredients, except brown sugar; stir in milk and margarine. Spread in 9 inch pan, sprinkle with brown sugar. Pour hot water over entire batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 min utes. Cake rises, sauce in the bottom. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream. Beat together oil, eggs and pumpkin. Add to flour mixture. Stir in nuts and cranberries. Spoon into 18 well- greased muffin cups. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes. Turn out onto racks to cool. OKLAHOMA OATMEAL PIE 3 eggs 1-1/2 cups sugar 1-1/8 cup light corn syrup 1 cup + 2 tbs. oats Dash of salt 3/4 cup milk 6 tbs. butter, melted 1-1/2 cups shredded coconut 1-1/2 tbs. vanilla 1 unbaked (10”) deep dish pastry shell Beat eggs lightly in large bowl. Add sugar, corn syrup, oats, salt, milk, melted butter, coconut and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes or until nicely browned and set. Makes 8 to 10 servings.
