For me it’s keeping up with the ever increasing water and electric Small woodlot owners can order improved Douglas fir seedlings Owners of small woodlots that need planting or reforest ing, may want to consider plac ing orders for seedlings with the Columbia County Small Woodlands Association. The Association has re served a supply of improved Douglas fir seedlings for Zone 5, which includes most of Co lumbia County and NW Ore gon. These improved bare-root Douglas fir seedlings, selected on the basis of growth charac teristics and form, are generally not available to small woodland owners. The 1-1 seedlings are ex pected to be packaged 120 per bag and available in mid-Feb ruary at locations in St. Helens and Rainier. Douglas fir seed lings are often difficult to ac quire in the early spring, when planting is normally scheduled, so early ordering is advised. Which of these should I cut back on? All I’m saying is I feel we can accomplish our goals of safe schools without breaking the taxpayers’ financial back. What would be so wrong with a plan that addresses the problem of the old Grade Schools? I think we need some more drawing board time. There must be a better way. Sally Harrison Vernonia A dog is killing small pets in Vernonia To the Editor: Warning to anyone in town who has chickens or any other small animals. There is a killer dog on the loose. It killed our kids’ pet chickens. One liked to ride on the handlebars of a bike. The dog jumped the fence of their pen to get to them. And it jumped at my husband when he tried to stop it. The dog is a little smaller than a German Shepherd. It had no collar. Its coat is black, brown and tan. It is built a lot like a pit bull. A neighbor lost chickens not too long ago also. So beware for any small an imals, possibly children, too. Phillis Rode Vernonia Thief took deer shot by another hunter To the Editor: On October 27, at approxi mately 3:00 p.m., our son shot and killed a 3-4 point Black Tail Deer approximately 3 miles off McDonald Road. While we were looking for the deer, someone took it. The vehicle parked at the scene was a light grey Jeep Cherokee Wagon.
