Donelson, Sewell & Mathews Mor tuary in Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements. DONALD R. PALMATEER Donald Ross Palmateer, 76, Elsie, died July 8, 2001. No service was held. Interment was in Willamette National Cemetery. Mr. Palmateer was born September 28, 1924, in Owosso, Mich. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He lived in Vanport, Cascade Locks, Troutdale, Portland and Carver before moving to Elsie in 1992. He was a sheet metal worker for Brod & Mc Clung until retiring in 1990. In 1947, he married Josephine Klingbile. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999; and a stepson, Roger Klingbile in 2001. Survivors include his stepson, Den nis Klingbile; stepdaughter, Sharon Petri-Arbuckle; a sister, Darlene Gen try; two brothers, Harold and Jerry Lavender; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Autumn and Gresham Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrange ments. KENNETH R. FORD SR. Kenneth Ray Ford, Sr., 53, Gaston, died July 14, 2001. Memorial services were held July 19 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Forest Grove, with Rev. Daniel Bohlken officiating. Mr. Ford was born February 7, 1948, in Reydell, Ark., to Cleaven “Al fred" and Selma “Christene” (Capps) Ford. He grew up in Buckeye, Ariz., and moved to Gaston when he was 17. He worked as a timber faller for John Collins Company, then at clearing land for the Dorshack Dam in Idaho and the Libby Dam in Montana. He re sumed falling timber for the Henry Hagg Dam in Gaston and, later, in Mist. Graveside Services and Vault Interment were July 27 at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery in Ver nonia, with Pastor Grant Williams, of Vernonia Community Church, officiat ing. Mrs. Steers was born September 17, 1910, in Fall City, Washington, to Louis and Lura E. (Alexander) Carmi chael. She grew up in Mist and gradu ated from Vernonia High School in 1928. As a young woman, she worked as a secretary. In 1933, she married Marion Steers in Fall City. In 1941, they moved to Big Eddy Park just outside Vernonia and, in 1944, moved to a farm, where they raised turkeys. Mrs. Steers owned and operated the Vernonia Variety Store and, in 1972, took over the Rose Motel. She was an active member of the Vernonia Federal Credit Union, serving on committees as needed, a member of the Coin Club, secretary/treasurer for the Vernonia Senior Center and the Vernonia Society & Old Grads. She was a seventy-five year member of the Natal Grange #302. In 1982, she re tired from all of her working obligations, but continued as a caregiver for Robert Spencer for over five years. Mrs. Steers was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; a sister, Grace; and a brother, Bill. Survivors include three daughters, Laura Brewer of Clatskanie, Alice Smith and Mary Cota, both of Vernon ia; a brother, John Carmichael of Ed monds, Washington; ten grandchil (B Beautiful Townhouse in Vernonia! fits.
