RV, picnic, shower facilities in Anderson Park near completion
Visitors who stay in Anderson Park will no longer have to deal with old RV
hookups and restrooms. More than $300,000 in grants has made it possible
for the City of Vernonia to replace the 15 old RV hookups with 19 new ones,
complete with water, sewer, electricity, telephone and cable TV. Additional
improvements include new restrooms with showers, all handicapped acces
sible, and a new, covered picnic shelter. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to cele
brate completion of the park improvements and publicly thank the agencies
that provided funding, will be held Friday, Aug. 3, at 1:30 p.m.

Boating safety starts with the owner and operator
Summertime is here, which
means that about 17 million
boats are hitting the water.
Boating is a terrific family activ
ity and is one of the fastest
growing outdoor recreations in
America.
While safety advancements
are continuously being devel
oped, nothing can replace
common sense and good judg
ment on the part of boaters. No
one should take the helm of a
boat without boating education.
Remember to use these
safety guidelines:
Boat owners:
1. Make sure your boat is in
good running condition, includ-

More children in the U.S. die
from traffic accidents than from
any other cause. Six out of 10
of these children die unre
strained in the vehicle. Tragi
cally, nearly half of them would
survive if they were restrained
properly.
Yet, even when child seats
are used, about 85 percent of
them are installed incorrectly,
most often with multiple instal
lation errors that actually can
cel the injury-prevention ad
vantages of safety seats.
If you transport children in
your vehicle, take time to drive
through the safety clinic in
spection area. It will take just a
few minutes for a certified tech
nician to check the safety
seat(s) in your vehicle, confirm
how to install an infant seat se
curely, the way to use locking
clips properly and when it is
safe to switch to an appropriate
booster seat as children grow.
The clinic is free and no reg
istration is required.
