Motorcycle club’s donations continue to help feed needy people Thirty members of the Rose City Motorcycle Club made a trip to Vernonia last week to bring another ton of food to Vernonia Cares. Over 250 antique and col lector cars from throughout the Pacific Northwest are expected at the Clatskanie Cruisers Car Club’s 11th annual Heritage Cruise Car Show, 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 30, in the Clatskanie City Park, one block off Highway 30 in down town Clatskanie. Other Heritage Days activi ties in the park on June 30 will include the taste-tempting Pie in the Park baking contest and pie sale sponsored by Clatskanie Chapter P.E.O., and the Mayor’s Walk Against Hunger spearheaded by Clatskanie Mayor Chip Waisa- nen and the Turning Point Community Center. Across the Clatskanie River in the Black Dog Clan Moun tain Men Encampment, which will continue through the 4th of July, visitors are invited to trav el back in time to the American West of the 1820s to 1840s where living history re-enacters in period costumes will demon strate the mountain man way of life including trading tables, singing, dancing, drumming, knife and tomahawk throwing contests, and more. Saturday, June 30, will also see the final performance of “The Mouse That Roared,” by the Clatskanie High School Drama Club, in the Donavon Wooley Performing Arts Center at Clatskanie High School, 471 SW Bel Air Drive. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Other performanc es will be June 22, 23 and 29. An All-School Reunion for everyone who ever attended, taught at or were otherwise as sociated with Clatskanie area schools is set for Sunday, July 1, beginning at 12 noon in the Clatskanie City Park, with lots of visiting and reminiscing. Neighbors - The Heart of Community is the theme of the annual 4th of July parade, which will march down Ne halem Street at 11 a.m. and end in Clatskanie City Park. Oren Tweet, a Clatskanie city councilor for over 30 years and a leader in the town’s tradition of community service, will lead the parade as grand marshal. After the parade, featured activities in or near the city park will include the Heritage Log ging Show beginning at 1 p.m., the first of four competitions which will end with the crown ing of the Logger of the Year at the Vernonia Jamboree; the Ki- wanis Chicken Barbecue, a Fun Center, booths, conces sions, free kayaking on the Clatskanie River, the mountain men encampment, the golden oldies rock ‘n roll concert by Johnny Limbo & the Lugnuts from 6 to 9 p.m., and the fire works spectacular at dark.
