1932, he hired Miss MacDonald from
the Imperial.
The bookkeeper and the chef, 34
years her senior, were married in 1943.
He died in 1952, at age 69. Later that
year, she married August Petti, an
Italian-born clothing designer who had
become a restaurant patron. He soon
joined his wife in the restaurant He
died in 1991, at age 99.
In her later life, Mrs. Petti was a phi
lanthropist, using the Margaret
MacDonald Thiele Petti Trust to help
many organizations. When the new
public library was under construction in
Vernonia, she responded with a gener
ous grant that was used to buy furnish
ings for the library. The meeting room
in the library is named in her honor.
