The INDEPENDENT, May 16, 2001 EDNA F. CAPLES Edna Fay Caples, 88, died April 21, 2001. Private services were held, with disposition by cremation. Mrs. Caples was born Sept. 18, 1912 in Vernonia. Her maiden name was Webster. She married Ralph Caples in 1930. They made their home in Portland. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Caples was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star, Mt. Hood Chapter, and Daughters of The Nile. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991. Survivors include a son, Jerry of West Linn; a brother, Walt Webster of Lebanon; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to Oregon Meals on Wheels. Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. IMOGENE E. SCHEELE Imogene Eunice Scheele, 56, Gig Harbor, Wash., died. Memorial servic es were held April 22 at the Eagles Lodge in Gig Harbor. Mrs. Scheele was born February 20, 1946, in Astoria, to Fredrick John and Myrtle Lois Slanger of Birkenfeld. She was raised in Jewell and graduat ed with honors from high school. She graduated from business college and and worked a year in Portland before taking a government job in Washington D.C. She married Stephen Bright Jr. in 1969 at Emanuel Episcopal Church in Birkenfeld. They lived in Tennessee, where she worked for 4-H for 10 years. Later, she married Kenneth Scheele and moved to Gig Harbor, Wash., where she worked for the Tacoma school system. Mrs. Scheele was a member of Emanuel Episcopal church and the Gig Harbor Eagles Lodge. Survivors include her husband; a son, Stephen Fredrick; her mother, Myrtle Slanger, of Jewell; a sister, Cynthia Anne Weber of Astoria; a brother, Dale Slanger of Longview; two grandchildren. LENA “MAE” HINDERMAN Lena “Mae” Hinderman, 76, Vernonia, died May 10, 2001. Private services were held. Mrs. Hinderman was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Purcell, Missouri, to Willard and Sadie (Ford) Purcell. She was raised in Purcell and Alba and graduat ed from Alba High School. In 1940, she moved to Spokane, Washington. In 1941, she married Benjamin Hinderman. They lived in Mullan, Idaho, until 1959, when they moved to Wallace, Idaho. In 1993, she moved to Vernonia. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Wallace for over 50 years. Mrs. Hinderman was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Page 13 Frank; three sisters, Lela, Ruth and Viola. Survivors include three sons, Jim and Gary of Bellingham, Washington; and Ron of Vernonia; two daughters, Jeanette Hood of Vernonia and Patricia Wolfe of Roseburg; a brother, Ed Purcell of Webb City, Missouri; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchil dren; nieces and nephews.
