Recita tion of the Holy Rosary was held Feb. 20 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy. Mass of Christian Bur ial was held with Fr.. Todd Molinary, celebrant. Interment was at St. Francis Cemetery in Roy. Mr. Lardy was born August 29, 1923, in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, to Peter John and Anna Theresa (Reit er) Lardy. He started school in North Dakota. In 1935, he moved to Roy and completed his education. He joined the United States Coast Guard in 1942 and served for three years in the South Pacific. He then set tled in Buxton. In 1950, he married Gladdean D. Dick. Mr. Lardy worked on the railroad, where he acquired the name “Spike". He also worked at the Empire Light Rock Plant in Timber, at Oregon-Amer ican Lumber Company in Vernonia, Ross Island Sand and Gravel, and in the shipyards in Portland until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the V.F.W. in Banks, the Manning Grange and the Buxton Community Club. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Melvin L., Lawrence and Mi chael, all of Buxton; two daughters, Nancy Lazott of Rainier and Joan Burnsed of Buxton; three sisters, Flo rence Flaig of Forest Grove, Geneveve Dennis of Vernonia; Alfreada Cutright of Banks; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. PARAGON Kaylena Lynn Paragon, 5, Vernon ia, died February 4, 2001, of cancer. Services are pending. Kaylena was born August 30, 1995, in Milwaukee, to Rick and Tammy Paragon. The family recently moved to Vernonia. Survivors include her father and mother; two brothers, Kiefer and Kevin; and one sister, Kira, all of Vernonia; and a grandmother, Connie Tisone. Remembrances are suggested to the Kaylena Paragon Fund, in care of any U.S. Bank Branch, to help defray costs. Oregon Cremation was in charge of arrangements. LESLIE A. SKIRVIN Leslie Arlan Skirvin, 55, Westport, died January 27, 2001. A memorial mass was held February 3 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Fa ther Luan Tran, celebrant. Vault inter ment will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Scotts Mills. Mr. Skirvin was bom June 10,1945, in Silverton, to John Arthur and Cecile (Mulkey) Skirvin. He graduated from Silverton High School in 1964. He moved to Astoria and graduated from Clatsop Community College in 1966 with an associate law enforcement de gree. In 1967, he moved to Westport. He worked as a millwright for James River corporation until his retirement in 1995. In 1967, he married Judith Ann Fleckenstein. In 1987, he won the World Champion Hot Saw Competition and was Columbia County Logger of the Year three times. He was chairman of the logging show for Clatskanie Her itage Days for 17 years. He was a member of the Rainier Eagles, American Lumber Jack Associ ation and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. RICHARD M. BAKER Richard Melvin Baker, 81, Vernon ia, died January 23, 2001. A memorial service was held at the Scout Cabin in Vernonia on February 3. Disposition was by cremation. Mr. Baker was born October 10, 1919, in Portland, to Richard and Julia May (Counts) Baker, and was raised in Vernonia. He worked in logging as a young man and then was self-em ployed in salvage. He lived in Ritzville, Wash., for many years and worked for Kelso Sales Barn, an auction house owned by one of his sons. He returned to Vernonia in 1995. In 1939, he married Geraldine Hoffmeister. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl, in 1998. Survivors include his wife; three She lived in Cornelius from 1927 to 1929 and returned to Tillamook. She was a member of the Tillamook United Methodist Church. She married John Burbank in 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lu Hendon, Johnetta Adamson and Loretta Hupp; a sister, LaVerna Hindes; a brother, Lowell Hopkins; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to Tillamook United Methodist Church, 3808 12th St., Tillamook, OR 97141. Waud’s Funeral Home in Tillamook was in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife; a daugh ter, Suzie Smith of Westport; a son, Jeff of Clatskanie; two brothers, Fritz of Salem and John of Silverton; a sister, Sara Nietling of Stayton; three grand children; nieces and nephews. Remembrances are suggested to Community Home Health and Hospice, P O Box 2067, Longview WA 98632. LEONA BURBANK Leona Burbank, 91, died January 27, 2001. A funeral was held January 30 in Tillamook United Methodist Church. Interment was in Tillamook In ternational Order of Odd Fellow Ceme tery. Mrs. Burbank was bom October 22, 1909, in Banks and grew up in Tillam ook.
