The D epartm ent of C on sum er and Business Services O regon O ccupational Safety and H ealth D ivision (OR- O SH A) is offering annual scholarships from an account established by the 1991 Legis lature at the request of the O re gon AFL-CIO. The W orkers’ Memorial Scholarship Account is used for educational needs of spouses or children of per m anently disabled or fatally in jured workers. Legislation in 1999 increased the fund, en abling a distribution of approxi mately $12,000 for the 2001- 2002 school year. The Safe Employment Edu cation and Training Advisory Committee, an appointed advi sory group for O R -O SH A grants, has been given the au thority to determine the schol arship standard and select the recipients. The deadline for submitting an application for the 2001- 2002 school year is March 1. Application forms are available from the Oregon Student A s sistance C om m ission, 1500 Valley River Drive, Suite 100, Eugene, OR 97401-7706, high school guidance counselors, or O regon college financial aid departments. Applicants must be Oregon residents receiving fatality benefits, a dependent or spouse of a fatally injured worker, or be the dependent or spouse of an Oregon worker who incurred a permanent total disability under O regon R e vised Statute 656.206.
