August 2000 brought notifi cation of a $249,000 grant from OPRD for the construction of restrooms with showers and agroup picnic shelter for An derson Park. A month earlier, Northwest Oregon Economic Alliance approved a grant of $80,000 for construction of the infrastructure (water, sewer, electrical and phone) and paving for new RV hookup sites in Anderson Park. Through extensive planning by the Parks committee, the de sign for Anderson Park is com plete. There will be 19 new, paved RV hookup sites with individual fire pits. Five of the RV sites will be ADA accessible. In or der to provide for additional RV sites, the existing cook shack will be demolished. The infrastructure is sched uled to be installed by Public Works in February 2001. Con struction of the restroom faility, picnic shelter and paving of the RV sites are scheduled for April 2001, with a completion date of June 2001. Provisions have also been made for the purchase of new playground equipment. Mr. Tandy was born D ecem ber 3, 1909, in C am pbellsville, Kentucky, to Joseph M. and M ary F. (Short) Tandy. He grew up in Kentucky. He joined the U.S. Arm y in 1943 and was a Veteran o f W orld W ar II. In 1949, he m arried Arizona “Zona" H ow ard in Vernonia, w here they m ade their hom e. She died in 1983. He m arried Ruth J. H olcom b H ank ins in 1992, in C olorado Springs, Colo. They lived in Vernonia. Mr. Tandy w orked in the tim ber in dustry throughout his life. He w as a m em ber o f the First Bap tis t C hurch in V ernonia, and had served as deacon. He was also a life tim e m em ber of O ddfellow s Lodge #54 in Hillsboro. Survivors include his wife of Dallas- port, W ash.; seven stepsons, Bob Car- son of O cean City, W ash., David Car- son of Am boy, W ash., W ayne Hankins o f Dallasport, Wash., Leonard and Larry Mott, both of Seattle, W ash., M ar vin H ankins o f Colo., and Lealund M ott o f M innesota; a step-daughter, Ruby Lapierre of Yakima, W ash.; thirty-three gra nd childre n and num erous g re a t grandchildren. Mrs. Bishop w as bom January 20, 1932, in Pierce County, W isconsin, to Leon and Beth (Power) M errim an. She w as grew up in M innesota and m oved to O regon in 1963. In 1979, she m arried Orval O. B ish op in Vernonia, w here they m ade their hom e. They ow ned and o perated the service station on H ighw ay 26 a t S ta ley's Junction and, later, the R ocket Station in M anning. Mrs. Bishop w as a m em ber of the C atholic C hurch. She w as preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Harold M errim an and a sister, R ochelle Spears. Mr. H unt w as born June 13, 1924, in Banks, to H enry C harles, Sr., and Lucetta (M aw hinney) Hunt. He a tte n d ed school in the Banks area, then m ove d to H ills b o ro w h ile in high school. He graduated from H illsboro High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. N avy from 1942 to 1945 and earned a co m m is sion as a lieutenant in 1945. In 1949, he m a rrie d L o rra in e D uBois in Portland. He earned both bachelor and m aster o f arts degrees from Lew is and C lark C ollege and a doctorate in education adm inistration from the U niversity of Portland. He w as a past president of the H ills boro Kiw anis Club and a m em be r of the Lions Club. S urvivors include his w ife; a son, Gary, o f C alifornia; and a sister, Jackie Sim pson, of Oregon.
