These clients and their chil dren often need many things that most of us take for arant- Special program at Birkenfeld Church The public is invited to Birkenfeld Community Church on Friday, Dec. 22 to view a Christmas tableau, “2000 Years Ago Jesus Came!” Viewers will be guided from scene to scene, with the per formance repeated every 15- 20 minutes between the hours of 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The last performance will begin at ap proximately 8:15 p.m. There will also be music and refreshments. With the help of many people in Columbia County, WRC tries to meet the clients’ many needs, but it has been a struggle. Help is always greatly ap preciated and WRC has devel oped the following wish list for the shelter and its residents: Money to help with the heat ing bill, food, medicine, gaso line, etc., sheet sets (20 twin size and six full size bunks), towels (bath, hand and wash- clothes), pillows, washable blankets, kitchen linens and potholders, pot and pans, clothes irons, laundry supplies (soap, softener, bleach, etc.), small gardening tools, small appliances, cleaning supplies, personal care items, feminine hygiene products, small chests of drawers, sturdy kitchen chairs and an electric floor scrubber. Proposals sought for emergency food, shelter funds Under the federal Emer gency Food and Shelter Pro gram, Columbia County has been awarded $33,712 to sup plement emergency food and shelter programs in the area, a 34 percent increase over the amount received last year. A national board chaired by the Federal Emergency Man agement Agency (FEMA) made the allocation. A local board will determine how the funds are awarded to qualified organizations in the county. Qualified organizations must be non-profit, have an account ing system, practice nondis crimination, have demonstrat- ted the capability to deliver emergency food, utility or shel ter programs within Columbia County, have voluntary boards and have a permanent Colum bia County presence.
