The INDEPENDENT, December 20, 2000 Page 11 A very serious conversation appeared to take place between 4-year-old Logan Titus and Santa Claus during Santa’s visit to Vernonia. While waiting to take Santa and Mrs. Claus back to their sleigh, after they had visited with youngsters in Vernonia, December 9, Rick Hobart and Digby also entertained the children with free carriage rides. Digby even dressed for the occasion with a Santa hat. Mrs. Santa Claus looks on while Alicia Newby, 10, smiles for a picture with Santa. Christmas a t the Country Kitchen Not much is accomplished on the last day of school before winter break, but it’s a good time for an entertaining assembly at Vernonia High School. Each class offered entertain ment, the drama class performed “A Christmas Carol” as written by Megan Puera and Jes sica Dillon, and the band, shown above, played some seasonal selections. Santa came to fill his sack, our gifts here are a must. $6 Betty’s baking goodies to spread the Christmas cheer, Jimmy’s rollin’ pizza dough, and will, throughout the year, as Missy’s making cookies for our Toys for Joy jar. “Cappucino anyone?” says Susan to the gals, as Dave serves cakes and eggs and tries to milk the cow. When we come in, here’s Shawnna, always up before the sun, and Dave starts making donuts, they’re a Ho Ho Hole in one.
