This has been in place for some time and has proven to be a valuable service. However, patients sometimes fail to pick them up at the clinic, and this is becoming a problem; the clinic staff is asking patients to be sure to pick up their prescriptions up— this is very important for the success of the program. ( Here’s how the system works: When you see a provider at the clinic and medication is prescribed, you have the option of hav ing the clinic order your prescription from High School Pharmacy in Scappoose, and having it sent via courier to Vernonia without charge. Delivery is within 24 hours (sometimes even the same day). Prescriptions are recorded and distributed in the office in Vernonia late in the day, and patients are notified by phone that their prescriptions have arrived. If medications are not picked up within 48 hours, they must be returned to the pharmacy. This becomes a huge problem for everyone - but most importantly, the patient is not receiving the medication needed. And returning the prescriptions is a huge hassle, both for the clinic and for the pharmacy. This is presenting a big stumbling block to this valu able service. Patients can be assured that the clinic will help solve any prob lems regarding this issue. Is there an insurance or co-pay prob lem? Or prescriptions not covered by insurance? Or a financial difficulty or hardship? Or you just can’t get in to pick the medicine up? Whatever the case, please call the clinic staff at 429-9191. Providence can help sort through all this, so that their patients are receiving medicines that are prescribed. The clinic wants to find ways to make this program work more effectively; please call the office if there are questions or comments. Mammovan: The mammovan is in Vernonia one day every month, and all women are encouraged to take advantage of this convenience. Women over age 35 should have a mammogram screening every 1-2 years, along with an annual checkup; over age 50 a mammogram every year is recommended. The next mammogram date in Vernonia is Wednesday, Feb ruary 16. This is another of those rural health services that make life much easier for us. And, it only takes 10-15 minutes! Call the clinic for an appointment. DEADLINE 2000 DOG LICENSE Elizabeth E.
